He Said He’d Marry Her, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 26

I was busy with the final wedding rehearsal.

I had no idea what Ethan’s reaction was when he saw the gifts from the past ten years, especially the pink diamond ring I had once treasured.

Halfway through the rehearsal, Daniel kissed me for the first time.

I also didn’t know that because of that ring, Ethan slapped Brooke hard across the face.

It was laughable, really.

That day, when Brooke had pretended to fall and framed me.

When Ethan had shoved me, and I had injured my knee.

None of us could have imagined a day like this would come.

But Ethan and Brooke were no longer a part of my life.

I didn’t care at all.

When Mr. Whitmore brought me the brooch, I told him and Mrs. Whitmore that I was getting married.

They were shocked.

The wedding they had come to Chicago to attend was the very one the Harrington family was holding for their heir.

And the bride-to-be, who had remained so mysterious that even the local media couldn’t get a picture of her, was me.

They were happy for me, but they also cried tears of regret.

Especially Mrs. Whitmore.

She held my hand and wouldn’t let go.

“Ava, I don’t want to cry on your wedding day, but I just can’t accept it.”

“It’s my fault. I didn’t raise my son right.”

“He took one wrong step, and then another, and another, until he ended up here…”

Ethan wanted to break up with Brooke.

But Brooke refused.

Her family even came to the Whitmore house to make a scene.

They contacted the local tabloids, crying about how a rich boy had played with their daughter’s heart.

They had nothing to lose and weren’t afraid of a scandal.

Just as things were about to explode, Brooke found out she was pregnant.

The Whitmores couldn’t bring themselves to force a young woman to have an abortion.

It seemed their marriage was inevitable.

Leaning into Mrs. Whitmore’s arms, my own eyes reddened.

I remembered when I had first arrived at their home, crying for my parents every night.

I remembered Mrs. Whitmore holding me, comforting me.

I remembered those carefree days.

I remembered all the years they had loved me like their own daughter.

In the end, the tears fell.

“Ava, our Ethan just wasn’t meant to have this blessing.”

Mrs. Whitmore wiped my tears.

She sighed, but there was a look of comfort in her eyes, too.

“The Harringtons are a good family. And Daniel is the most outstanding young man of his generation in Chicago.”

“Ava, you’re going to be happy.”
