He Said Don’t Wait, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 24

“Maya, I can handle this. Every witness has a weak spot. Every testimony has a crack.”
“With what?” I whispered, my voice trembling. “With the recordings of me crying to Jenna?”
The words hit him like a physical blow. A flash of hurt crossed his face, but he pushed it aside. “No. With facts. I will prove they are lying.” He grabbed his suit jacket. “I have to go to the office. Stay here. Don’t talk to anyone. Especially not Garrett.”
He was gone, leaving me alone in the study, surrounded by the evidence of my own pain. The rows of law books seemed to mock me, mocking my poor judgment, mocking the fact that I might have given my heart to the wrong man. Again.
Just then, my phone vibrated. The name flashing on the screen made my stomach clench.
Garrett.
I stared at it, my mind a chaotic whirl. Noah’s warning echoed in my ears, but a stronger, darker curiosity took hold. I had to know. I had to know who had betrayed me, and why.
I answered the call.
“Maya?” Garrett’s voice was slick with false concern. “I heard about the witnesses. I’m so sorry. My parents have taken this too far.”
