“I just finally stood up for myself.”
“But the Whitakers’ influence in commercial real estate…” My father’s voice was heavy with a helplessness I hated. “Your studio lease, Maya… everything you’ve built…”
The glass door slid open, and Noah stepped inside. “You don’t need to worry about the Whitakers.”
His confidence made my father pause. “Noah, I know you’re a capable man, but—”
“No buts.” Noah walked in, closing the door gently behind him. “I’ve been waiting six years for this day. I’m not going to let Garrett Whitaker, or anyone else, ruin it.”
He looked at me, the resolve in his eyes a fortress against my parents’ fears, a sudden anchor for my own spiraling heart. “You are my wife. I will protect you. Always.”

I knew, in that instant.
The retaliation had already begun.
