He Rewrote My Marriage Contract for His Uncle—So I Became the Real Donna Chapter 06

“Did you sleep with him?” Lucien’s eyes locked onto the bruises mottling my neck. His voice ground out through clenched teeth, tight and strangled. 

I stood at the top of the steps, looking down at him. Jealousy and regret warred on his face, ugly and raw. 

I knew exactly what was eating him alive. It wasn’t just that his former shadow had ended up in another man’s bed. It wasn’t just that the woman he’d discarded and humiliated over and over had actually walked away for 

good. 

What truly gutted him was primal. Last night, someone 

else had claimed me. And it wasn’t him. 

The satisfaction sliding through my veins was ice–cold. 

I adjusted my shawl, letting the silk slip just enough to bare the marks entirely. Then I met his gaze dead–on. 

“Yes.” I let the silence stretch. “And he didn’t 

disappoint.” 

Lucien’s eyes burned red. “Violet!” 

“Lower your voice.” My tone didn’t fluctuate. “It was my wedding night. I slept with my husband. Are you struggling with the concept?” 

His throat worked, his frame trembling. “You’re mine,” he choked out, the words tearing at his throat. 

I let out a dry laugh. “Yours?” 

I descended the stairs, slow and deliberate, until I 

stood inches from him. 

“Lucien, where was that possessiveness when you abandoned me at the banquet until dawn?” 

“Where was it when you crossed your name off the contract and discarded me like trash?” My voice 

sharpened to a blade. 

The blood drained from his face. I watched it happen, 

unrelenting. 

“I remember you parading that woman into my home and demanding my necklace.” I took a step closer. “I remember you forcing me to take off my dress. I remember you deliberately voiding our contract.” 

“You brought this on yourself.” 

Lucien opened his mouth, struggling for breath. “I didn’t mean for this to happen,” he whispered. 

“Didn’t mean it?” I let out a short, brittle laugh. “Then what was the excuse for the other ten times? What exactly were you playing at?” 

“I just wanted to get a reaction out of you!” He lunged forward, but the guards behind him hauled him back. “I didn’t want it to end up like this – I never thought you’d actually marry him!” 

“I thought you’d always wait for me!” His voice 

shattered on the last word. 

And there it was. He’d known. He’d always known how long I’d waited, how much abuse I’d swallowed, how deeply I was anchored to him. He’d banked his entire 

ego on the fact that I’d never leave. 

“But I did,” I said, my voice soft and absolute. “And you had a front–row seat.” 

Something behind his eyes fractured. The last of his 

composure caved in. 

“Violet.” He was shaking. “Come back to me, Violet.” 

A breathless laugh escaped me. “Go back to what?” 

His face contorted. “How could you actually marry 

him? How could you let a cripple-” 

“Enough.” 

The single word severed his sentence. He stared at me, 

silenced. 

I held his gaze. My voice was dead calm–the kind of 

calm that signaled the end of negotiations. 

“Haven’t you always shielded that woman? Didn’t you burn your reputation to the ground for her?” 

“Then it works out perfectly.” I lifted my chin. “As 

Donna, I’ll handle it personally. I’m arranging your 

wedding to Serena.” 

Lucien went ashen. “What did you say?” 

“Are you out of your mind?!” His voice pitched up in panic. “You’re throwing me at someone else?” 

“Someone else?” I smiled. “Isn’t she your precious 

Serena?” 

“I won’t do it!” He was completely unraveling. “I don’t want her! I’m not marrying her!” 

His voice dropped, the fight bleeding out of him entirely. “I was wrong. Violet, I was wrong. I’ll never do 

it again.” 

“I’ll get rid of her. I’ll do whatever you want.” He swallowed hard. “Let’s start over.” 

“Start over?” The voice drifted from behind me – low, unhurried, and cold enough to drop the temperature in 

the room. 

The last trace of blood vanished from Lucien’s face. 

Dante approached with measured, predatory steps. The guards parted for him in absolute silence. He stopped at my side, his arm sliding around my waist to pull me flush against his side–a seamless, territorial claim. 

Lucien stared at that arm. The jealous red rimming his eyes was glaring, but his jaw snapped shut. 

He didn’t dare. This was the true apex of the syndicate 

– the man Lucien had been terrified of since 

childhood. Lucien could play the arrogant heir in front of the world, but in Dante’s presence, he was nothing but a frightened dog. 

Dante glanced down at me. “Finished?” 

I nodded. “Almost.” 

He turned his gaze on his nephew. His eyes were dead 

black. 

“Listen to your aunt.” The command landed like a 

death sentence. “She’s cleaning up your mess. Show 

some gratitude.” 

Lucien’s lips moved. “Uncle, I-” 

“Shut your mouth.” Dante didn’t raise his voice. He 

didn’t need to. “You do not argue in the Donna’s 

presence.” 

Lucien physically recoiled. Dante dismissed him 

entirely. 

“We’re done here.” His grip tightened on my waist, steering me toward the estate. “Let’s go. Your aunt is 

tired.” 

I shot him a sideways glare. I knew exactly whose fault 

that was. 

But the annoyance melted into a quiet, smug warmth. I 

leaned into his side as we walked. “What took you so long?” 

He glanced down, the ice in his eyes thawing into something dangerous and fond. “Got held up.” 

“Mm.” I hummed, drawing the sound out. “Then 

you’re banished to the study tonight.” 

A low laugh rumbled through his chest. “We’ll see.” 

We kept walking, murmuring to each other, bodies 

aligned. Behind us, the courtyard remained dead silent 

for two full seconds. 

Then Lucien’s roar shattered the morning – raw, 

unhinged, an ugly sound made of everything he 

couldn’t swallow. Pure fury, jealousy, and the 

gut–wrenching regret of a man who finally realized he 

was too late. 

I didn’t even look back. I just tightened my hold on 

Dante’s arm, a slow, predatory smile curving my lips. 

He was breaking already? 

It was far too early for that. I hadn’t even begun to 

collect on his debts.
