He Put Me On Do Not Disturb For Three Years, But Prioritized His Stepsister Chapter 02

The next morning, Sean actually brought back breakfast.

It was the pan-fried pork buns from my favorite place, still warm.

“Don’t dwell on last night.”

He set the bag on the table.

“I took the day off so we can get your wedding shoes made.”

I bit into a bun and the hot broth burned my mouth.

He sounded sincere, and his eyes were soft.

For a moment, I thought maybe I really had been too sensitive about last night.

The car was already parked downstairs.

I walked to the passenger side and opened the door.

The seat had been pushed all the way forward.

When I sat down, my legs were crammed, my knees almost hitting the glove box.

I reached for the seat adjustment controls.

Sean came over and tapped on the window.

“Don’t move the seat,” he said through the glass.

“Ari has short legs. This is the only position where she can reach the pedals.”

My hand hovered over the controls.

Sean opened the back door.

“You’re wearing a dress today, so the back seat is easier. It’s roomier.”

I unbuckled, got out of the passenger seat, and slid into the back.

I stared at the empty passenger seat in front and said nothing.

When we got to the shoe boutique, the fitter came over to measure my feet.

I’d just stretched out my foot when the door swung open.

Aria ran in, breathless.

“Bro, am I late? Has sis picked her style yet?”

Sean shook his head and, without missing a beat, had the fitter measure her as well.

As she sat down, I saw a swollen bump around her ankle.

Sean frowned immediately and crouched to look.

“How did you twist it again? Didn’t I tell you to wear flats?”

After last week’s accident, I was still recovering from an injury.

I was still dealing with the pain from it.

He glanced at mine and said, “Just put some bruise spray on it. Minor injury, no big deal.”

Then he turned around to answer Aria’s call.

Sean crouched by her foot, his fingers gently pressing the swollen spot.

Aria sucked in a breath, and he snatched his hand back.

“Does it hurt?”

“A little.”

He looked up at the fitter. “Make hers a custom order. Her ankle needs extra support.”

Then he looked at me.

“You try on this pair first. The fitter is taking care of Ari; her foot needs a special design.”

The fitter was already measuring Aria.

He carefully wrapped the measuring tape around her ankle twice and jotted down several measurements in his notebook.

“Okay,” I said.

When he paid, the card reader’s screen lit up.

Dear VIP Member: Aria.

On the drive back, Sean answered a call from the front seat.

“The membership is under your name, with all the points building up for you. From now on, just come in and use it.”

Even with shoes bought for me, he still had to leave the last benefit to Aria.

I looked at the back of his head and suddenly thought of junior year.

Sean had worked a delivery job for three months and given me a bank card.

He’d taken my hand and pressed a card with only my name on it into my palm, his eyes fierce and earnest.

“This card belongs to you alone. I want to take care of you with it, so you’ll never have to worry about money again.”

That card was still in the back of my drawer, never used once.

And now he had finally gotten a card that could give someone “A life she wouldn’t have to struggle through,” and the cardholder was Aria.
