He Promised Me Photos, She Got Them Instead Chapter 10

At first, his plan worked perfectly.

When Dylan arrived at school with Madison riding on the back of his bike, the smile on Hannah’s face shrank

by what felt like a single pixel.

No one else might have noticed, but Dylan could tell that she was unhappy.

They had known each other since childhood. He understood her too well.

Seeing Hannah look so down made him happy, but it also made his heart ache a little.

Later that day, when Madison asked for his number, he did not give it to her immediately.

Instead, he turned to Hannah.

“Hannah, we’ve known each other since we were kids. Another girl wants my number. Do you think I should give it to her?”

Satisfaction surged through him when her face turned red.

“Do whatever you want!”

But instead of possessively telling him not to give it to Madison, Hannah simply stormed off in a huff.

Dylan froze for a moment.

He knew she was easily embarrassed. Clearly, he needed to push her a little harder.

So he gave Madison his number.

As luck would have it, Madison also shared several classes with them.

For the rest of high school, Dylan treated Madison as a prop in his attempts to make Hannah jealous.

The plan seemed to work perfectly.

Dylan saw sadness and hurt on Hannah’s face more and more often, and he took those emotions as proof

that she cared about him.

Hannah did care.

But no matter how much someone cared, being hurt over and over would eventually wear them down until they finally let go

He never noticed that the sadness on Hannah’s face appeared less and less often.

Then, at the graduation get-together, everyone started urging Dylan to confess his feelings.

Dylan immediately looked at Hannah because he wanted to see her reaction. Hannah was the only person he

wanted to confess his feelings to.

But Hannah said she did not care.

Humiliation and panic hit him at the same time.

He covered both emotions with anger, but now he could not shake the feeling that if he did not go hiking with

Hannah, he would lose his chance forever.

However, when Dylan wheeled his suitcase outside, he found Madison waiting at his door with red-rimmed

eyes.

“Dylan, it’s been the three of us all through high school. Just this once, you really won’t come with me?”

“Going to Miami was my mother’s dying wish. You know that.”

Dylan frowned irritably and was about to respond when Madison rose onto her toes and kissed him.

“If you don’t come with me, I’ll tell Hannah that you kissed me.”

“I don’t want to threaten you. I know you’ve been using me to make Hannah jealous. Consider this what you owe me for playing along. Is it really so much to ask that you come with me?”

Dylan stared at the tears on her face.

After hesitating for a long time, he broke his promise to Hannah once again.

Just this once, he told himself.

He swore it would be the last time.

Dylan did not dare message Hannah for the entire summer.

Still, he constantly checked her Instagram and occasionally posted things to remind her that he was still thinking about her.

Finally, summer came to an end.

He arrived at Hannah’s house carrying a suitcase full of gifts.

He had come with the gifts intending to confess his feelings, but Hannah’s lack of reaction to the words he

deliberately used to provoke her still stung.

He stormed away, but the uneasiness inside him only grew stronger.

All he could do was stare at the two train tickets on his phone, with seats right next to each other, and try to

reassure himself.

Dylan had lied to Hannah.

This time, he had bought only two tickets.

One was for him, and the other was for Hannah.

Madison had never been part of the plan.
