He Only Lets Me Call Saturdays at Nine I Call Someone Else Chapter 08

Adrian dropped to one knee, one hand clutching his abdomen. Blood soaked through his shirt and pooled in

a dark puddle on the stone pavement.

Someone nearby screamed.

Lilah sat collapsed on the ground, curled into herself, her lips trembling.

“I didn’t mean to hurt him… It’s Roselyn’s fault… That bitch…”

“Adrian loves me… He couldn’t possibly leave me… She must’ve seduced him… I… I didn’t mean…” She was

already barely coherent.

I stood there and quickly called an ambulance.

Adrian kept looking at me, his voice hoarse, his breathing broken.

“Roselyn… I finally found you…”

The ambulance siren sounded in the distance, growing louder by the second.

“You’ve suffered so much… Everything I did to you in the past… I’m sorry…”

“Forgive me… I didn’t know they treated you like that…”

“I’ve dealt with them. None of them will get away with it. When I get better… I’ll marry you…”

He kept talking, but his voice grew weaker.

I stood two yards away and looked into his eyes. There was a light in them I’d never seen before, along with a

look of almost desperate humility.

It reminded me of the way he’d looked when he carried me to the hospital years ago.

But this time, I didn’t step forward.

“Adrian, we’re over.”

The ambulance stopped at the end of the street. Paramedics rushed over and helped him onto the stretcher

He struggled and turned his head toward me, reaching out a hand. But I turned around and walked away.

Ethan was waiting at the end of the street.

The streetlights had just come on, their warm glow falling across his shoulders.

When he saw me, he didn’t ask any questions. He simply handed me a drink he was holding.

“Let’s watch that movie tonight. You said you’ve been wanting to see it, right? No more work tonight.”

“Once we have some time in a few days, let’s go explore around here. The neighbors said a new flower shop

just opened nearby.”

“We’ll buy whatever flowers you like. And don’t stay up late tonight, okay? It’s not good for your health.”

Listening to his familiar rambling, I felt even more at peace.

For a long time afterward, Adrian kept coming.

He still had bandages around his body, and his wounds hadn’t even healed properly before he started

showing up again.

He’d stand outside my company until dark, waiting.

Whenever I came out, he’d take two steps toward me, then stop, as if he was afraid getting too close would

scare me away.

Everything he brought was left with security. Designer handbags, skincare, luxury beauty products. Each package was more carefully wrapped than the last.

I didn’t open a single one. I had security return them exactly as they came.

He then changed tactics and sent something different each time. Hand cream became necklaces and

handbags, then a new pothos plant.

One day, he blocked my path at the end of the street.

He’d lost a tremendous amount of weight. His cheekbones stood out, and dark circles shadowed his eyes.

When he saw me, he took one step forward. His voice was barely above a whisper.

“Roselyn, I’m sorry. I know that all these years, I’d been too carried away. I forgot how good you were to me”

“But I never meant to hurt you. Please, give me one more chance…”
