He Only Lets Me Call Saturdays at Nine I Call Someone Else Chapter 05

At the hospital, Adrian was still frantic.

‘Doctor, is Lilah alright? She has a heart condition. She’s always been in poor health.”

The doctor looked at him and said calmly, “She doesn’t have a heart condition. Her test results came back

clean. She’s perfectly healthy.”

Silence filled the room.

Adrian’s hand remained suspended in midair as he took half a step forward.

“How is that possible? Did you get the wrong results? She has episodes all the time. She goes pale, has

trouble breathing… It’s happened several times…”

The doctor slid the test results across the desk.

“Test results don’t lie. She’s healthy. You should get that cut on your hand treated, though. The glass cut

pretty deep.”

Adrian looked down. A deep cut ran across his palm.

The hospital room door opened behind him.

Lilah’s voice came softly. “Adrian… Are you okay? I’m scared…”

Her voice grew softer, as if she were genuinely frightened. “My condition is unusual. Routine tests can’t

detect it…”

“You risked your life for me just now, Adrian. I believe you now. I’ll be with you.”

She rested her face against his chest. “As long as you cut ties with Roselyn, I’ll let it go… Besides, she’s

already been kicked out of the company.”

Adrian froze. “What do you mean, kicked out?”

“You didn’t know?” Lilah blinked. “The fact that she seduced you and played the mistress has been found out

by everyone at the office. They couldn’t stand it, so they…”

Adrian suddenly remembered that moment.

Roselyn had been crouched beside the steps, her hair disheveled, looking like a mess.

But he’d thought she was just so careless that she’d dropped her things.

She was always like that around him-losing things, falling down, making little mistakes.

He’d gotten used to it, so he didn’t think too much about it.

But that day was different. She really had looked like she could barely stand.

What had he been doing then?

The more he thought about it, the more anxious he became.

Adrian turned and ran out. He grabbed a nurse by the arm.

“There was a patient brought in after a car accident. Roselyn Johns. Long hair, white blouse…”

“The one who left on her own? She finished her tests and signed herself out. She said she had no family with

her.”

“She’d just had surgery…”

The nurse pulled free, her voice impatient.

“She signed her own discharge papers. Are you her boyfriend? Young man, if your girlfriend was injured, why weren’t you with her? She left alone with blood still on her clothes.”

Adrian released her. His hand hit the wall hard enough to hurt.

Then he suddenly remembered something Roselyn had said years ago.

They’d still been living in that tiny apartment then.

She’d had a bad stomach infection and a fever in the middle of the night. She’d rested her head on his back

as he carried her.

“Adrian, I wish you’d always worry this much about me.”

But why had he stopped worrying about her?

Because she always said she was fine.

She’d sent messages, made calls, and even told him she was fine after he’d humiliated her in front of the

entire office.

But what if she hadn’t really been fine? What if she’d already reached her breaking point?

Just then, his phone vibrated. He answered it.

Lilah’s voice came through, trembling with tears. “Adrian… The wounds hurt so much. The doctor said I

might have an infection… Can you come see me?”

Adrian instinctively turned back toward the hospital room.

When he opened the door, Lilah was leaning against the headboard, scrolling through her phone.

At the sound of the door, she immediately shed tears. “Adrian…”

Adrian stood in the doorway. For the first time, he called her by her full name.

“Lilah Simpson, if you need something, talk to the doctor. But don’t you dare speak ill of Roselyn again.”
