He Mocked My Scar, So I Left Him to His Regret Chapter 16

He Mocked My Scar, So I Left Him to His Regret Chapter 16

The Education Committee replied two days later.

They asked me to mail the original notebook and provide the current location of the cheating notes.

I stared at Holden’s number for a few seconds, then sent him a

text.

*Do you still have those notes?*

His reply came almost instantly.

*Yes.*

*Please mail the originals directly to the Mooncrest Education

Committee. The case number is below.*

He called me, but I didn’t answer.

After a moment, another message appeared on my screen.

*Lucia, I’ll send them. And I’ll explain everything I know.*

I didn’t reply.

Three days later, the committee informed me that Holden had delivered all the notes, along with a written statement admitting

that he had posted the poll for Bianca and helped submit the

anonymous report.

At last, he had chosen to tell the truth.

But that courage was three years too late.

After news of the investigation spread through Mooncrest, Lockwood contacted me for the first time, through his company

email.

The subject line was not an apology.

It read: *Request for Meeting Regarding Tidewatch Southern Route Storage Cooperation*.

At the end of the email, he added: “We can also discuss family

matters at the same time.”

After reviewing the proposal, I learned that Lockwood Real Estate was attempting to enter Tidewatch’s port storage market.

No wonder he had shown up at that reception.

I forwarded the email to our company’s conflict-of-interest review

board and wrote clearly in the disclosure form:

*The applicant’s primary officer is my biological father. He held

legal custody of me during my minority, but we have had no actual

familial contact.*

After that, I recused myself from all evaluation of the partnership.

When Mom saw the application, she frowned.

“You don’t need to recuse yourself. He never fulfilled any duty as

a father.”

“Precisely because he never did,” I said, closing my laptop, “I

need to.”

“I want him to understand that in Tidewatch, no one gets special treatment because of my love or my hate.”

That same night, Bianca called me.

She used several different numbers. When I finally picked up, she launched straight into accusations.

“It’s been three years. Why can’t you just let it go?”

“You have everything now. What about me? Because of you, Dad

has already frozen my credit cards.”

I listened to her familiar, shrill voice, but not a single ripple of

emotion stirred inside me.

“The Education Committee will give you an opportunity to make a

statement.”

“You can explain yourself to them.”

I hung up and blocked the new number.

She thought I wanted to take her money and her father.

All I had ever wanted was my own name back.
