He Mocked My Scar, So I Left Him to His Regret Chapter 11

He Mocked My Scar, So I Left Him to His Regret Chapter 11

I looked at my mother.

Her clothes were elegant, the fabric expensive. A blue diamond ring glinted on her hand.

But the pale, slender hands I remembered were now lined with

fine wrinkles.

“Later, once the business was stable, I wanted to come back for you. But your father told me you didn’t want to live with me.”

“He said you would never acknowledge me as your mother.”

I rushed to explain. “That’s not true. I never got any message from you in all those years.”

My room was no longer just a bed and a lamp.

The spacious bedroom was filled with the plush toys I’d loved as a

child, decorated in the style I’d once described to her.

The walk-in closet was stocked with all kinds of jewelry-none of

it silver.

On the vanity sat skincare products specifically chosen for my

skin type.

I could see it so clearly: she was giving me everything she knew

how to give.

Before the semester started, I went to the Tidewatch Pack registry

office.

The staff first confirmed that this was my own choice, then had

me recite a formal declaration in front of two witnesses.

“I, Lucia Vega, voluntarily sever all ties with the Mooncrest Pack.”

As the final word left my mouth, the faint pack connection deep within my consciousness vanished. Mooncrest could no longer summon me, nor did it have any right to decide my fate.

After that, Tidewatch wrote *Lucia Vega* into my new file.

It was the first time I had a pack identity that didn’t depend on my

father or on Holden.

Mom worried I was putting myself under too much pressure.

But I needed to remind myself, through my own actions, that just because someone was willing to support me didn’t mean I could let go of control over my own life.
