He Mistook My Sister For Me On Meetup Day Chapter 05

“Lena?”

Evan said my name like he was learning it for the first time.

The email kept scrolling on the screen.

[I’ll wear the crimson slip dress. I’ll carry the navy hardcover poetry collection.]

[You said before the tide pulls back, I’d answer that the mountain won’t move.]

[If you don’t recognize me, that’s okay.]

[I’ll step closer and tell you-I’m Tidecaller.]

The crowd went dead silent.

Every eye turned to Iris.

She was wearing the red dress.

But there was no book in her hands.

Evan flinched like he’d been struck. His head snapped toward her.

“Where’s the book?”

Iris’s lips went pale. “What book?”

“The one we agreed on.”

“I… I was so nervous. I forgot it.”

Evan turned to me.

“Where is it?”

I didn’t answer.

My mother rushed the stage first, stepping in front of Iris.

“What’s there to ask? Lena’s always been good with words, so Iris had her polish things up. She helped manage the account too. Of course the scheduled email had Lena’s name on it.”

My father stood up.

“That’s right. She’s just a ghostwriter. Iris isn’t good with expression, but the one who really loved you for

seven years-that was Iris.”

Whispers rippled through the crowd.

“So who’s actually Tidecaller?”

“The sister ghostwrote for seven years? Then what did the sister provide?”

“Can you even ghostwrite feelings?”

Tears spilled down Iris’s cheeks. She walked up to Evan and reached for him.

“I’m the one who loves you.”

“My sister just put it into words.”

“I’ve never been good at expressing myself-she knows that.”

Evan pulled back before she could touch him.

His eyes stayed locked on me.

“Letter thirty-seven. The line I never sent. What was it?”

I looked at him.

Seven years ago, he’d gone quiet on the phone for a long time. Then he said:

“If you’re willing, I want to go from someone who doesn’t know what you look like to someone you see every

single day for the rest of your life.”

But I was done proving things for anyone.

“Ask her.”

Evan’s voice cracked. “I’m asking you.”

“Why?”

I let out a bitter laugh. “Because the screen said my name, so now you’ll finally ask?”

His face went pale.

“At the airport, I stood right in front of you.”

“The second I opened my mouth, you said my sister told you I’ve always taken her things.”

“At the bookstore, I told you those habits were mine-you said I was copying her.”

“Yesterday, you told me to delete seven years of letters because they were private between you and her”

I stepped forward, one pace at a time.

“Evan, I didn’t wait until now to tell you. Every time I tried, you chose to believe her first.”

His lips parted. “I didn’t know-”

“Of course you didn’t. Because you never asked.”

My mother lunged at me, grabbing my arm.

“Are you happy now? Destroying your own sister?”

“The proposal’s done. Evan’s been with Iris for days now. Even if you wrote those letters, she’s the one who’s

been there for him in real life!”

I looked down at her hand on my arm.

“That was five days ago.”

“Five days she’s been with him.”

“Seven years I’ve been there.”

My mother’s voice turned sharp. “What does a screen count as company?”

I nodded.

“Then it doesn’t count.”

Evan’s head whipped toward me.

I pulled out my phone, disabled the shared login, and revoked the exhibition account access.

One by one, the projections on the wall went dark.

Eighty-four letters vanished from behind them.

Iris screamed, “What are you doing?”

“You said words aren’t love,” I said, looking at her. “So from today, I’m not writing for you anymore. And I’m not answering for you.”

I turned to Evan one last time.

“Seven years. That’s it. From today, I’m not loving anyone on your behalf.”
