He Loved My Fake Self Chapter 06

Peyton leaned back, watching Jolene chatter and laugh, fingers tapping idly against the table.

His gaze was dark.

I knew exactly what he was thinking. That green cup had been handpicked by “me”. How could “I” not

recognize it?

“Restroom,” he said, forcing a polite smile as he stood.

That’s when I saw the bottle clenched in his other hand. Antihistamines. Allergy meds.

Jolene didn’t notice a thing.

“Clover, did you order yet? Don’t be shy. Peyton said treating you guys to dinner is his way of asking you to

look after me.”

I was starving. But I had zero appetite.

“Whatever’s fine.”

“Okay!” Jolene chirped, turning to the server. “We’ll go with that. Oh, and no cilantro in anything-my friend

can’t eat it. She’ll literally throw up.”

She shot Peyton a smug little smile, the kind that screamed-look how good a friend I am.

Peyton just stared at her.

Something flickered across his face and vanished.
