He Loved My Fake Self Chapter 04

I dropped the pads on Jolene’s bed.

She came back from the neighboring dorm room a minute later, new friends in tow.

“Clover! My boyfriend’s taking everyone out tomorrow. You in?”

I didn’t turn around.

“Pass.”

The girls behind her snickered.

“Told you she’s still hung up on him. Like Peyton would actually be with her without you in the picture.

“If you hadn’t stalked him for a week to get his Facebook, someone as spineless as her? Peyton wouldn’t even know her name.”

“Stop,” Jolene chided, but her voice was syrupy. She walked over, raising her volume just enough. “Clover’s not like that. She just needs time, right?”

She blinked at me with those big, wet eyes, the same way she’d done a hundred times before.

“I just got dumped by my cheating ex, and then Peyton confessed to me. It feels like fate. You’re my best friend. I want your blessing.”

As she said it, her sleeve shifted, revealing that ugly scar from when she’d saved me.

My stomach twisted.

“Fine,” I muttered, looking away.
