He Loved Me in Secret, Until I Became Someone He Could Never Have Chapter 06

Alessio stood up almost immediately.

When he saw me, a familiar smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.

That “I knew it” certainty.

“Sit. Moretti’s people will be here any minute. You lead the meeting. Camilla supports.”

He didn’t even ask where I’d been for three days.

Because in his mind, my returning proved everything. I couldn’t leave him.

Camilla smiled brightly. “Vivienne, you finally showed up. Alessio’s been worried sick. But you’re here now, and today’s client is important. Don’t be difficult.”

Dominic glanced at me but said nothing.

He was probably the only one who sensed something had shifted.

I didn’t sit. “I’m not here for Rinaldi.”

Alessio’s smile flickered. “What do you mean?”

Camilla laughed first. “Then why are you here? Don’t tell me you came just to cause trouble.”

Alessio’s voice dropped. “Vivienne. Sit down.”

Before, that tone was all it took.

But today I stayed where I was, looking at all of them. “I’m here to wait for my fiancé.”

The room went silent. Camilla blinked.

Then laughed like I’d told a joke. “Fiancé? Since when?”

She made a show of looking around. “Alessio? Or Dominic?”

Alessio’s brow furrowed.

When we were together, he had said he’d propose once Rinaldi Holdings was officially stable.

And he’d already secretly bought a ring.

So when he heard “fiancé,” his first thought was still that I meant him.

Just that the timing was wrong.

Family. Executives. Camilla. And now Moretti’s people walking in.

If he admitted we’d been together for five years, his whole act would collapse into a punchline. Fairness. Avoiding favoritism.

He looked at me and mouthed, almost soundlessly, “Don’t.”

Camilla saw it. Her smile widened. “Vivienne, come on. Who is it?”

I didn’t look at Alessio. I just said, “He’s not here yet.”

Alessio visibly exhaled.

He thought I was still protecting his image. “Then let’s start with the project.”

I opened the file on the table. “Moretti Holdings is interested in Rinaldi’s logistics and real estate delivery capacity. But there are clear issues with risk management and capital allocation.”

Camilla cut me off. “Vivienne. Are you here to help the company or tear it down? The client isn’t even here and you’re already listing our problems?”

Lignored her. But Alessio started to sense something was off. The way I spoke didn’t sound like someone on Rinaldi’s side.

It sounded like someone evaluating them from the client’s perspective.

Camilla képt going. “If you’re not feeling up to this today, just go home. Alessio already put me in charge of this project.”

I closed the file. Then I stood.

Everyone thought I was finally leaving. But I just walked to the door and reached out.

Under the dim hallway lights, a man stepped forward. Dark gray suit. Tall, lean. Around thirty. Calm

eyes.

He didn’t have Alessio’s razor-edged presence. The kind that made people tense up just by walking

But the moment he appeared, Dominic was the first to stand. He knew this man.

Valerio Moretti.

Underboss of the Moretti Family.

The man most likely to take over the entire Family one day.

He walked to me and took my hand like it was the most natural thing in the world.

I turned to face the room.

“Everyone, my fiancé. Valerio Moretti.”
