He Left Me to Freeze, So I Burned His World Down Chapter 10

Piper hurried after him, reaching for his arm.

“Graham, where are you going? Don’t go.”

He shook her off without looking back, the motion sharp with irritation.

He had to go home. He had to see Ava.

He had to see her, right now, and ask her if what he’d heard about Nora was true. He had to make her understand that no matter what, he had never considered divorce.

He slammed the car door shut, cutting off the noise of the restaurant. The cold leather did nothing to calm his racing mind.

He took out his phone, opened his chat with Ava, and typed a line.

[I’m on my way home. Wait for me.]

He hit send.

A red exclamation point appeared, followed by a line of text: [Message failed to send.]

Graham’s heart dropped.

She had blocked him.

He refused to believe it. He switched to the call screen and dialed her number. A cold, automated voice answered.

“The number you have dialed is currently unavailable.”

Just then, someone nearby cried out, “Look at the financial news! The Hart Foundation is being restructured!”

“What? Are you serious?”

“Oh my God, Ava Hart nominated Bennett Shaw as the new co-chair. The board meeting is about to convene.”

Someone shoved a phone in front of him. The breaking news headline was as glaring as a bolt of lightning.

Graham slowly turned his head.

“Who did you say?”

“Look for yourself, Graham!” The friend was so agitated he read the news aloud. “‘Hart Foundation Emergency Board Notice: Founding Heir Ava Hart Nominates Bennett Shaw as New Co-Chair to Advance Trust Restructuring’… What the hell is going on? Is she replacing you?”

Graham’s gaze locked on the headline. Ava Hart. Bennett Shaw. Co-chair.

Every word was a hot poker in his eyes.

He had thought she was just throwing a tantrum, giving him the silent treatment to force a compromise. He had never imagined that she would go behind his back and pull the entire foundation out from under him.

The next second, he snatched the phone and smashed it on the floor.

The screen shattered.

Everyone froze.

“That was my phone…”

Piper had caught up to him. Seeing his terrifying expression, she spoke cautiously.

“Graham… when did you and Ava get divorced? Why didn’t I know?”

She took another step closer, a hopeful note in her voice.

“Is this another surprise you planned for me?”

Graham whipped around to face her, his eyes blazing with a destructive rage.

“I’d like to know that, too.”
