He Left Me at the Altar for His First Love, I Ruined Him Chapter 09

The family group chat fell dead silent.

Then it erupted.

“What the hell is this video? Did Elias actually say that?”

“He used company funds to renovate the house? And then moved Stella into it?”

“That prenup… this is disgusting.”

The dashcam footage was the first attachment.

Then the rest, one piece at a time.

The dressing room recording, everything Stella had said about the wedding dress.

Screenshots of the house deed and texts.

The money transfers to Stella.

Proof he’d embezzled my project funds.

The prenup Mrs. Sterling had forced on me, along with proof I’d paid half the down payment on the house they were trying to take.

The rental contract Elias had signed himself.

Audio of the crew warning him not to move the backdrop, and Elias overruling them seconds before it collapsed on me.

Photos of my mother’s broken brooch, along with the appraisal.

And the line that tied it all together: “Right now, she needs me more than you do.”

I watched the messages pile up, faster than I could scroll. The corner of my mouth curled.

Elias called.

I declined it and blocked his number.

My lawyer called.

“Ms. Hayes, the withdrawal is complete. All funds have been pulled.”

The lawyer’s voice was measured.

“Mr. Sterling’s company account has been covering shortfalls with misallocated cash.”

“Once your capital was pulled, every hole in his books was exposed.”

“Several major projects have stalled. The board is demanding answers.”

“Move forward with everything.”

“File suit to recover every dollar he diverted.”

“Understood.”

I hung up and walked out of the coffee shop.

The sun hit me full in the face.

I took a breath, the first real one in days.

Across town, Elias had just pulled back from Stella when he finally checked his phone.

The group chat. Dozens of missed calls. The color drained from his face.

He called me again and again and again.

Every call went straight to voicemail.

He drove to City Hall. Then the office. Then my apartment.

I wasn’t at any of them.

At the office, the board was waiting. So was my legal team.

“Mr. Sterling, Ms. Hayes has formally withdrawn her investment and filed suit for misappropriation of funds.”

The lead attorney didn’t blink.

“We’ve also filed for an emergency injunction. A portion of your accounts will be locked by the end of the day.”

Elias sank into his chair. He couldn’t think.

Only then did he realize.

I wasn’t throwing a tantrum.

I was done with him. For real, this time.

Finally, he stumbled back to the apartment.

He let himself in with his key.

The apartment was empty.

My clothes, my toiletries, every trace of me, gone.

Even the air smelled empty.

On the dining table, one sheet of paper.

Elias picked it up with trembling hands.

Seven years ago, when his company was on the verge of collapse, I’d given him everything I had. Every dollar. He’d insisted on drawing up a promissory note.

His signature at the bottom. And one line underneath.

“I swear on my life, I will never let Clara down.”

I had torn it in two. Elias stared at the halves, and his knees hit the floor.

“Clara…”
