He Laughed at My Tears, Now He Cries Alone Chapter 16

Before he could finish, the assistant ran over again, his face pale with panic.

“Mr. Lawson, we have a problem.”

“What now?”

“Both the Lawson and Vance companies are in trouble.”

“The market opened this morning, and both our stock prices have been in free fall.”

“Someone is shorting us. Hard.”

“From the looks of it, they have no intention of letting up.”

Derek was so agitated that the movement sent a fresh spike of pain through his leg. His face twisted in agony.

Tiffany, her face freshly stitched, was wheeled over from her room.

She heard the news, and her mind went blank.

“What?”

“Who’s attacking our companies?”

Mr. Lawson’s face was like stone as he looked at Derek.

“What, exactly, did you do to Claire Monroe?”

Derek was completely dazed.

He had never, in his wildest dreams, imagined that Claire Monroe was part of *the* Monroe family.

No wonder she had never been afraid of him.

No wonder she could turn the tables so completely.

Only people like them could pull off something like this.

Tiffany, still ignorant of Claire’s true identity, opened her mouth.

“What else could we have done?”

“We just made fun of her for being poor, tricked her with a fake wedding, and threw some cockroaches on her while she was in the bath—”

*Thwack.*

Before she could finish, Mr. Vance kicked her wheelchair so hard she tumbled out onto the floor.

“You dared to treat her like that?”

“It would be a miracle if she didn’t retaliate.”

“You two idiots have dragged both our families down with you.”
