He Killed Me, Now I’ll Watch My Sister Ruin Him Chapter 01

Three hundred years ago, in Sicily, an ancestor of the Romano family told an unmarried mother with nowhere to turn, “You and that bastard child of yours can go to hell.”

From that day forward, the men of the Romano family were cursed.

When they turned twenty-five, their bodies would begin to betray them. They would grow breasts and a uterus.

The only way to stop the transformation was to marry a woman born with the bloodline of a savior.

My younger sister, Isabel, and I were both born with that bloodline.

In my last life, Dante, the Romano heir, chose to marry Isabel. I knew she couldn’t save him, so I fought the match with everything I had. In the end, he was forced to marry me instead.

On our wedding night, Isabel left a suicide note and vanished near the cliffs. In the note, she claimed I had stolen the man she loved.

My parents called me a monster. Dante hated me.

On the seventh day after Isabel disappeared, he had me bound and dangling from a helicopter, dragged through the sky.

I screamed and begged him, told him I was the one who’d saved him, and pleaded for him to let me go.

He said, “Meredith, the woman I wanted was Isabel. She could have saved me without you. You killed her. Now you can die.”

Then he cut the rope.

I plummeted from the sky and shattered on impact.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back. It was the day the Romanos came to our house to propose the marriage.

This time, I was going to watch. I wanted to see for myself how Isabel, whose power was long gone, planned to save him.

“Dad, Mom, it’s her. She’s the one I want to marry.”

Dante raised his hand, pointing to Isabel in her white dress.

As he spoke, his gaze flickered to me, his eyes burning with anger and a clear warning.

I understood instantly.

He’d come back, too.

Isabel tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and asked softly, “Dad, Mom, who are these people?”

My parents smiled as they made the introductions to the Romano family.

I looked at her and almost laughed.

She’d slept with Dante months ago, yet here she was, playing the innocent.

I couldn’t stand to watch another second of it. I stood to leave.

Dante’s voice cut through the room, sharp and harsh.

“Meredith Bennett, don’t you dare start with that nonsense about being the only one who can break the curse by marrying me. I won’t marry you, so you can just keep your mouth shut.”

Mr. Romano immediately snapped at him.

But Dante only raised his voice.

“Dad, who even knows if that curse is real? It’s been decades. I refuse to believe it’s going to happen to me.”

Mr. Romano slapped the back of his head.

“What do you know? The Romano men have survived for generations because they married women with the savior bloodline.”

“Your twenty-fifth birthday is next week. We can’t afford to delay.”

Mrs. Romano’s eyes reddened.

“He’s right, Dante. I carry the bloodline, which is why your father married me. We searched for over twenty years to find girls of the right age. Please, stop making this difficult.”

Dante pointed a defiant finger at Isabel.

“Then I’ll marry her. She has the bloodline, too. But I will never marry Meredith. If you force me, I’ll kill myself. Right here, right now.”

I stood there, and it all clicked into place.

So that’s what this was. A performance designed to silence me.

In my previous life, when Dante had declared he wanted to marry Isabel, I had stepped forward and told everyone:

“He can’t marry my sister. She can’t save him. Only I can.”

Dante had called me shameless in front of everyone.

My parents, always favoring Isabel, refused to believe me.

Only Mr. and Mrs. Romano, after a hushed discussion, decided to force Dante to marry me.

They’d rather bet on the wrong woman than gamble with their son’s life.

They didn’t know that Isabel and I were twins.

Because we were twins, sharing the same blood, I could see the truth about her.

Isabel had the bloodline, yes, but her power was gone—drained away. She couldn’t save Dante. In fact, she would only destroy him.
