He Gave Me a Beaded Toy Car and Bought Her a Luxury Car Chapter 03

Tristan’s words died in his throat.

Faye came rushing down from upstairs—wearing my pajamas—and threw herself in front of him.

“Nadia, please don’t fight with Tristan. He’s only doing this for your own good.”

Tristan pulled her behind him protectively. His voice softened. “Didn’t you have a headache? Why aren’t you resting? I’ve got this under control.”

Then he turned back to me, cold again. “Nadia, what the hell is your problem? I’m just trying to fix things between you and Vivian. Do you want the whole company thinking you can’t even work with your own team?”

So his solution was to keep punishing me? And keep promoting Faye?

Faye jumped in, her voice dripping with fake hurt. “Nadia, I know you’re upset about the Rolls-Royce Tristan bought me. I’m sorry. Please don’t fight with him.”

Tristan looked at her with sympathy. “That car was a company-approved incentive. You have every right to drive it. As long as I’m here, nobody’s going to say a word.”

“But Nadia misunderstood you. I don’t want her thinking badly of you.”

Tristan shot me a cold look. “That’s her problem. She’s the one with the dirty mind. You and I have nothing to hide.”

“Since she doesn’t want the director job, she doesn’t have to keep it.”

Faye’s lips twitched upward. She could barely contain her smile.

“Nadia, don’t regret this!”

He stormed out. Faye followed close behind.

I looked at the shattered keepsakes on the floor. I stepped over them without a second glance. If he didn’t care anymore, why should I?

I went upstairs and slept.

When I woke up, my phone was full of messages. A demotion notice, sent six hours ago. And several missed calls from my team.

I scrolled through my messages. Faye hadn’t just been promoted. She’d taken over my team’s projects by force.

Tristan had posted a company-wide announcement telling everyone to learn from my example and not to abuse their seniority or position to cause trouble.

I typed in the team group chat. [Resignation letters ready?]

The replies came instantly. A wall of OK emojis.

HR looked at the crowd in front of him and swallowed hard.

“Mrs. Hale, it’s not that I won’t process it. I don’t have the authority to approve your resignation. And for them—an entire department resigning at once—I can’t approve that either.”

I didn’t make things hard for him. “Then call Mr. Hale.”

He picked up the phone, hands sweating. Call after call went unanswered.

On the tenth attempt, Tristan finally picked up. “What is it?!”

HR’s voice shook. “Mr. Hale, Nadia just put in her resignation…”

Faye’s voice came through in the background. “Tristan, she’s obviously angry. Maybe you should just undo the demotion. The company needs her.”

Tristan had been about to snap at HR. But Faye’s words lit a fire under him.

“Let her resign. The company runs fine without her!”

HR hesitated. “And her team members also—”

“Approve them. Approve all of them. Anyone who wants to follow Nadia out the door—don’t stop them!”

The moment word spread past HR, it became “I got fired.”

The people who’d always sided with Faye came slithering out. They piled on me without mercy. I ignored every single one.

I walked out of the building. I told my team to go home and rest up. We’d meet for dinner later.

After they left, I went back to the County Clerk’s Office and picked up my divorce decree.

As I turned to leave, I ran straight into Tristan and Faye.

“Babe, what are you doing here?”
