He Gave Me 99 Surgeries for His First Love, the 100th Killed Me Chapter 02

I twisted and thrashed, refusing to cooperate.

“Cecilia Vance, you’re not even qualified!”

“Never mind that you’ve never performed a craniotomy before—for three years, you’ve constantly forgotten to sterilize your scalpels. How many infections have I gotten because of you?”

“You’re just a test subject—why would I bother sterilizing anything?”

Cecilia snatched the syringe from the nurse, her patience gone.

“Since she doesn’t want the anesthetic, let’s do the surgery while she’s awake.”

The doctor hesitated. “Without anesthesia, she’ll be in agony until she dies.”

“She won’t actually die anyway. This is a perfect chance to observe the brain extraction response while the subject is fully conscious.”

She tugged at Nathaniel’s sleeve, her voice turning syrupy.

“Nate, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You’ll say yes, won’t you?”

He glanced at me, then quickly looked away.

“Whatever you say.”

Something inside me finally broke.

Cold metal pressed against my skull.

My head was locked tight in the surgical frame, completely immobilized.

At the end of my life, I grew calm instead.

“Nathaniel, for the sake of all the years we’ve known each other—after I die, bury me next to Lulu’s grave.”

Lulu was our unborn daughter.

“You still dare bring up Lulu?”

His lips pressed into a thin line, and his voice turned cold.

“We lost that child because you didn’t take care of yourself.”

“I never brought it up afterward, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t care.”

I stared at him in disbelief. “Nathaniel, what are you talking about?”

Cecilia paused mid-preparation.

“Elena, how dare you play dumb? Back then, on Nate’s birthday, he was kidnapped. If I hadn’t gotten there in time, he would have been killed!”

“But you—while he was fighting for his life—you went to a bar and fooled around with a bunch of guys, partying until you miscarried at eight months pregnant.”

“And now you have the nerve to play the victim? What right do you have to blame him?!”

She got more and more worked up, her expression murderous.

Nathaniel gripped her wrist. “Alright, don’t upset yourself. Let’s focus on the surgery.”

I felt the high-frequency electric scalpel drag across my scalp.

The sizzling sound made every nerve in my body crawl.

It hurt so much.

I couldn’t move, so I just clenched my jaw.

The smell of burning flesh filled my nose, and my consciousness started to fade.

Five years ago, on Nathaniel’s birthday, he was kidnapped by a rival faction.

I used the location tracker he’d voluntarily installed on my phone to find him.

To buy time, I had my men take the unconscious him away first, then locked myself inside the warehouse and fell into the enemy’s hands.

I was pregnant, and the kidnappers took turns on me—abusing and torturing me until I wished for death.

I barely escaped and eventually collapsed outside a bar.
