He Gave Her the Ring I Wanted. I Gave Him Hell. Chapter 06

He Gave Her the Ring I Wanted. I Gave Him Hell. Chapter 06

Over the next few days, I threw myself into taking care of my mother and clearing my name.

I compiled all the proof of Leo’s cheating, the audio from the barbecue place, the texts, the bills…

I uploaded everything online.

The title read: Eight years. I waited, but I’m done waiting now.

After hitting post, I fell straight into a deep sleep.

When I woke up, my phone was buzzing so much it felt hot to

the touch.

The tide had turned.

“What kind of garbage is this guy?”

“Eight years of bills? She was a glorified, unpaid maid!”

“Wait? Wait for what?”

A few skeptics questioned it, but the timeline was clear, and the evidence was indisputable.

An angry mob ran over to flood Leo and Sophia’s social media

accounts.

Leo tried to call, but I declined it.

Then came a text.

“Angie, I do have feelings for you, otherwise we wouldn’t have

stayed together for eight years. I know I messed up. I’ve already transferred the apartment deed to your name. I just

want one more chance.”

Laughable. After eight years, he finally wanted to talk about

“feelings.”

I flipped my phone face down on the table and poured some water for my mother.

“Who was that?” she asked.

“Nobody. Just spam.”

She gave me a quiet look but didn’t push.

We were holding each other up, both pretending to be strong.

But Leo wouldn’t give up.

A few days later, he showed up right outside my office

building.

He wore a dark blue button–down I had never seen before,

clutching a bundle of red roses.

He looked like a boy experiencing his first crush, rather than

an ex–boyfriend who had spent eight years running a con.

I looked straight through him and kept walking.

He cut me off. “Angie, wait. I need to talk to you.”

I looked at him, my expression perfectly flat. “What is it?”

He held the roses halfway up, caught in an awkward freeze.

“I know you’re still angry. I came to apologize.”

I remained expressionless. “I’m not angry anymore. I just

don’t want to look at you.”

He fell silent. “What do I have to do for you to forgive me?”

I said coldly, “No matter what you do, I will never forgive

you.”

I walked away quickly.

He didn’t chase after me.

But I could feel his gaze burning holes into my back.

That evening, my mother pulled me out to the balcony.

Leo was still standing downstairs, holding that same bunch of

roses.

“Now he knows how to beg? He’s been down there since you got back.”

I said, “Ignore him, Mom. Go get some rest.

Before heading inside, she asked, “Are you really not going to soften up even a bit?”

I shook my head.

Soften up?

That slap, the constant dismissals, the endless loop of “wait“…

All of it had been ground into dust during the years of waiting.

The police finally uncovered the whole truth.

The previous online smear campaign was orchestrated by bots Sophia hired.

She had thrown herself to the ground on purpose and edited the clip.

Defamation and assault.

Sophia was taken into custody.

The police told me to head down to the station tomorrow.
