He Forged My Name to Give Away Our Home, So I Gave Away His Chapter 14

He Forged My Name to Give Away Our Home, So I Gave Away His Chapter 14

The main base auditorium was half-filled with spectators.

Chloe stood at the front of the stage, her arm wrapped tightly in thick white gauze, her face pale and haggard as if she had just crawled off an operating table.

A massive banner was strung up behind her:

Military Families Dispute Coordination Meeting

When Daisy saw those words, she almost spat out her water.

“Stealing someone else’s housing entitlement is called a ‘family dispute’ now? If I steal her washbasin tomorrow, should we call it a ‘utensil exchange program’?”

Mrs. Wagner pulled her arm back.

“Keep your voice down.”

As I walked into the hall, Chloe was speaking directly into the microphone.

“I never wanted to expose private matters from the past, but I cannot stand by and watch a brave

officer who once risked his life to save me be blackmailed and forced into professional ruin.”

Ethan was sitting in the very front row, his expression incredibly grim. The moment he spotted me, he stood up.

“You shouldn’t have come here.”

“Are you afraid of what I might hear?” I asked.

“Her emotional state is completely unstable right now,” he urged.

I brushed right past him.

“Then let’s hear exactly how unstable she can get.”

Up on the stage, the moment Chloe saw me enter, her eyes immediately welled with tears.

“Ava Bennett, it’s good that you’re here. Since everyone is gathered today, let’s lay everything out in the open.”

I stood at the base of the stage, looking up at her.

“Speak.”

Chloe raised a yellowed, older medical report high in the air.

‘Three years ago, during a severe field exercise accident, I was gravely injured. It was Ethan who carried me out of the collapsing terrain on his back. He promised me then that he would take care of me for the rest of his life. Later, when his family pressured him into marrying you, I didn’t make at scene I endured it in silence for three long years.”

Whispers broke out among the spectators.

Mrs. Campbell, sitting in the middle of the crowd, immediately piped up, “So that’s the real story!

knew there was more to it.”

Daisy snapped at her, “Shut your mouth and listen to the end, or will it kill you?”

Chloe continued to cry out, “My return this time was purely for temporary housing. Ethan only used a flawed method because he didn’t want you to misunderstand. But what did you do? You pulled strings with the Vance family to pressure him, forcing him to write false statements and stripping me of a place to live!”

“Are you finished?” I asked calmly.

She nodded defiantly.

“I only have one question for you. Do you dare deny that you used the Vance family’s power to lean heavily on Ethan?”

A dead silence fell over the auditorium.

Every single pair of eyes shifted onto me.

“I did leverage them,” I stated clearly.

Daisy gasped in panic, “Ava!”

A triumphant gleam flashed across Chloe’s eyes.

“But I leveraged their eyes to witness the truth, not their authority to oppress,” I added smoothly.

The smugness on Chloe’s face instantly froze.

I pulled out a stack of documents from my purse.

“First, the signature on the housing waiver form was completely forged. Second, Ethan has formally acknowledged his part in the forgery. Third, Officer Vance has confessed that you provided the signature sample. Fourth, records indicate you purchased brand-new furniture for the property over two months ago.”

Chloe cut me off loudly.

“That furniture was bought for you!”

“Then why was the shipping address set to the military house under your name, and why did the original sales receipts exclude my name entirely?”

She grit her teeth.

“I filled out a secondary order form later!”

“The secondary form is dated yesterday,” I countered. “Where is the primary invoice?”

She had no answer.

I pulled out another sheet of paper.

“Fifth, three historic prescription logbooks went missing from the archive room. The facility access records show that on the day you came to the hospital to pick up your medication, you

entered the secure archiving area without authorization.”

A collective gasp echoed through the crowd.

Chloe snapped her head toward Ethan.

“You told her?!”

Ethan’s face turned incredibly ugly. That single outburst from Chloe was as good as a full

confession.

Realizing her slip of the tongue, Chloe scrambled to backtrack.

“I… I didn’t take anything!”

“We can pull the fingerprint records from the cabinet doors, or audit the entry logs. Either works,”

I replied calmly.

She pointed a trembling finger at me.

“Ava Bennett, do you absolutely have to drive me to my death?”

Daisy stepped forward to shield me.

“Stop using death as a shield! If you’ve really thought things through, start by returning everything you stole!”

Chloe clutched her bandaged arm tightly.

“This scar on my arm was earned while shielding Ethan from a falling boulder three years ago! Ava

Bennett, you can never compete with that!”

I looked closely at her forearm.

“I’ve actually reviewed that specific incident report once before.”

Ethan snapped his head up, shock written all over his face. Chloe’s expression crumbled.

“Your injury was to your left forearm, and the report clearly logged it as a superficial abrasion and a minor hairline fracture,” I stated coldly. “The massive laceration and muscle tearing from the falling debris were actually sustained on Ethan’s left shoulder. The claim that you saved his life is that written anywhere in the official logs?”

Chloe shrieked frantically, “What right do you have to look at confidential incident reports?!”

“You brought it up to the stage yourself just now,” I pointed out.

She looked down at the documents trembling in her hands, her face completely losing its color.

She had grabbed the wrong file from her stolen stash.

The spectators in the auditorium could no longer sit still.

Mrs. Campbell’s lips twitched, but she didn’t dare utter another word in Chloe’s defense.

Ethan stood up, his voice shaking with absolute disbelief.

“Chloe, for three entire years, you kept telling me that you shielded me from the secondary

cave-in.”

Chloe stumbled backward.

“I… I only said that because I didn’t want you to carry the burden of guilt…

“You lied to me for three years?”

“I didn’t lie to you! You were the one who explicitly promised to look after me!”

Ethan’s voice dropped to a terrifyingly dark register.

“My promise to look after you did not give you a license to destroy my wife.”

Chloe let out a hysterical, trembling laugh.

“Wife? Now you remember she’s your wife? When you carved her name onto that housing waiver, why didn’t you think about her being your wife?”

Those words slammed back into Ethan like a physical blow. He stood there, deathly pale, unable to offer a single word of rebuttal.

I packed away my documents.

“Chloe, you didn’t come here today to file a grievance. You came here to expose your own lies.”

She suddenly lost all control, charging down from the stage to tear my purse from my hands

Daisy threw herself in front of me, taking the brunt of the force and stumbling back.

Mrs. Wagner screamed, “Restrain her! She’s trying to destroy the evidence!”

Just then, Secretary Smith marched into the auditorium with a team of base MPs.

Even as Chloe was pinned down by the MPs, she kept screaming toward Ethan.

“Ethan! You can’t do this to me!”

Ethan stood rooted to the spot, completely unmoving this time.

Secretary Smith turned to me. “Ava, the General requests that you bring all relevant evidence to the

command office.”

I nodded.

Suddenly, Chloe burst into a sinister laugh.

“Go ahead and hand them over! Ava Bennett, do you think I’m the only one with dirty laundry? That medical journal your late mother left behind-are you entirely certain its origins are clean?”

I stopped dead in my tracks.

Daisy froze beside me.

Chloe glared venomously at my purse.

“Do you actually dare to let them investigate that?”
