He Forged My Name to Give Away Our Home, So I Gave Away His Chapter 11

He didn’t have an answer.

Every eye in the room was pinned on him.

Chloe panicked first.

“Ethan, say something! Tell her I didn’t know anything about it! Tell her Officer Vance just misunderstood!”

Officer Vance’s voice cracked in sheer desperation.

“Captain Vance, don’t throw me under the bus! I still have the signature sample you gave me, and the sticky note telling me to rush the paperwork!”

Chloe lunged forward to grab them, but Secretary Smith blocked her path with a raised hand.

“Leave the evidence to the family support center.”

Rachel squeezed through the back of the crowd, her face whiter than the drywall. She hadn’t dared step inside earlier, but now that Officer Vance had spilled the truth, she could no longer keep up her

act.

“Let’s not discuss this out in the hallway,” Rachel muttered.

Daisy immediately blocked the doorway.

“What? Now that it sounds bad, you want to change locations? When you were bullying Ava just now, why weren’t you afraid of a crowd?”

Mrs. Wagner stepped up as well.

“I’ll be a witness. Everyone here heard those words clear as day.”

Mrs. Campbell shrank against the wall, all her previous arrogance instantly evaporating.

Ethan finally broke his silence.

“I wrote the signature.”

It was as if Chloe’s bones had been pulled right out of her body.

“Ethan…”

Ethan looked at me.

“I thought it was just a temporary fix. I never imagined things would turn out like this.”

‘Did you think forging my name was a trivial matter?” I asked.

“I was wrong,” he said.

Those three words came far too late.

I slid the original documents back into my bag.

“You’re not the only one who needs to admit they were wrong.”

Secretary Smith looked at Officer Vance.

“Take the paperwork.”

Rachel said hurriedly, “Secretary Smith, shouldn’t we conduct an internal review first?”

Secretary Smith cast a sharp glance at her.

“Weren’t you mediating just now too?”

Rachel opened her mouth but found no words.

Daisy twisted the knife.

“Oh, she’s great at mediating. She specializes in mediating victims into staying silent.”

Several neighborhood wives couldn’t help but chuckle, and Rachel’s face flushed a violent crimson.

Ethan stepped up to me.

“Ava, I’ll have Chloe move out. The house goes back to you.”

“It’s not going back,” I said. “It’s returning to where it belongs.”

His throat tightened.

“Right. Returning to where it belongs.”

Chloe snapped her head up.

“Ethan Miller! Are you really kicking me out?”

Ethan closed his eyes tightly.

“Go stay at the base transit hotel for now.”

“I won’t!” She pointed a trembling finger at me. “You’re treating me like this because of her?”

Ethan’s voice was low and heavy.

‘We were the ones who did wrong.”

Chloe let out a bitter laugh.

“We? You’re the one who forged the signature, you’re the one who agreed to let me move in, and now you want to push me out with a simple ‘we did wrong’?”

Ethan’s face darkened completely.

“Chloe.”

Watching them tear into each other brought me no satisfaction whatsoever.

It was just too filthy.

I turned to Secretary Smith. “Please hand over the evidence to the appropriate authorities.”

Secretary Smith nodded.

“The old lady said you should stay at her place tonight. It’s peaceful there.”

Ethan immediately looked at me.

“You’re not going back to the old dorms?”

“I gave the old dorms back to you,” I replied.

“The new house can be cleaned up tonight.”

I glanced at the luggage cluttering the room.

“I find it repulsive.”

Ethan’s face drained of color.

Chloe suddenly grabbed a pill bottle from the coffee table and slammed it onto the floor.

“Fine! You’re all forcing my hand, aren’t you? I’ll die right here today, and let’s see who can sleep

soundly in this house after that!”

Mrs. Campbell shrieked, “Chloe, don’t do anything reckless!”

Daisy bellowed, “Those are just over-the-counter sedatives! Even if you swallow the whole bottle, at worst you’ll just have to get your stomach pumped at the ER! Who are you trying to scare?”

Chloe froze mid-motion.

Daisy continued to berate her, “I’ve pulled shifts in the emergency room before. Your little stunts

don’t fool me.”

Mrs. Wagner whispered to the person next to her, “So she really was faking it?”

Chloe’s face turned blue with rage.

The way Ethan looked at her changed completely.

This time, he didn’t rush forward to confort her.

Chloe noticed it too.

She suddenly bolted for the door.

I stepped aside to let her pass.

She ran down to the stairwell landing, only to be stopped by the men Secretary Smith had brought

with him.

“Captain Vance, we need you to cooperate and clarify some details regarding the situation.”

Chloe turned back to look at Ethan.

“Ethan, are you just going to stand there and watch?”

Ethan’s hands clenched into fists at his sides, then slowly uncurled.

Finally, he said, “Cooperate with the investigation.”

The hatred in Chloe’s eyes was no longer concealed.

She glared at me.

“Don’t get too smug, Ava Bennett. Do you honestly think he’s choosing you right now because he loves you?”

I held my mother’s wooden medical box tightly against my chest.

“I don’t need him to choose me.”

I walked out of the new house.

Daisy caught up to me, absolutely bursting with excitement.

“Ava, that was amazing! Her face turned completely green back there!”

I didn’t smile.

Downstairs, the old lady was waiting for me inside a sedan.

When she saw me, she patted the seat beside her.

“Come on in, dear.”

I climbed into the car.

“It’s alright to cry,” the old lady said softly.

I shook my head.

“I won’t cry.”

She handed me a piece of candy.

“Have a sweet, then.”

As the car pulled out of the residential compound, Ethan came running down.

He stood under the glow of a streetlamp, calling out to me.

“Ava! I’ll come pick you up tomorrow!”

I rolled down the window.

“Don’t bother.”

“We need to talk,” he said.

“The only thing I’ll talk to you about is divorce,” I replied.

The window rolled back up.

He chased after the car for a few paces, but this time, I didn’t look back.
