By the time Ethan returned home, all of Erin’s belongings were gone.

She had left without hesitation, taking only what belonged to her and the photographs from the cabinet.

He had no right to be this devastated.

After all, from beginning to end, their entire relationship had been a deception he created.

Even after the truth came out, Erin had not returned to confront him or demand compensation.

One of his friends had played the same game before.

When the woman found out, she had shown up at his door and refused to leave until he paid her

three hundred thousand dollars.

Ethan sat down on the couch.

For the first time, the lights in the apartment seemed painfully bright.

He could not help raising an arm to shield his eyes.

When had Erin discovered the truth?

Why had she been at the private club?

And when had she met Lucas?

The moment that thought crossed his mind, Ethan shot to his feet.

He pushed the car to nearly a hundred and ten miles per hour on the empty streets.

He went straight to the private club and demanded to see the security footage.

That was when he discovered Lena had been involved.

He knew Lena was one of the private club’s floor managers, a calculating woman who was exceptionally good at handling people.

Rumor had it that she had once been a victim of the same game, deceived by a rich young man pretending to be poor.

Lena smoked calmly as she faced Ethan’s questions, wearing an innocent expression.

“You mean Erin? Yes, I hired her, but we weren’t close. She told me she was broke and needed

money. Since we’re practically from the same place, I let her work here as a server.”

She exhaled a thin stream of smoke.

“Honestly, I thought she was pretty enough to make much more as a club companion, but she

refused.”

“Then a couple of days ago, she suddenly called me and said she was willing to do it after all. Apparently, something happened in her family and she urgently needed a large amount of money.”

“As for how she got involved with Lucas, I have no idea. The guests here know exactly what kind of women they like. Erin looks innocent, and she has beautiful eyes. It isn’t surprising that someone

noticed her.”

Lena smiled faintly.

“Mr. Walker, you really don’t need to make trouble for me. I honestly had no idea she had ever dated you.”

“A man in your position, dating Erin? Even if you’d told me yourself, I would’ve thought you were

joking.”

Ethan knew he would get nothing more from Lena.

She could not have become a manager at a place like this without powerful people supporting her.

She was not someone he could pressure however he pleased.

So he went to Erin’s hometown instead.

During the three years they had been together, Erin had asked him every year around Christmas whether he wanted to meet her family and talk seriously about marriage.

He knew she had genuinely wanted to marry him.

She had wanted to keep their baby too.

Perhaps there had been moments when Ethan had seriously considered it.

Many times, he had thought about ending the game and telling her the truth.

He kept telling himself Erin would not care that he had hidden who he really was.

Even while living in poverty with her, he had been happy.

Instinctively, however, he felt that the moment he returned to his real life as the Walker heir,. everything between them would change.

So he kept putting it off.

He had already won the bet, yet the longer it continued, the more uneasy he became.

The secret hung over him, threatening to come out at any moment.

He did not know whether Erin would discover it or when it might happen.

But he could not bear to leave her either.
