He Faked Poverty, Tricked Me Into an Abortion, All for a Bet Chapter 10

I took Lucas back to my hometown.

At first, I assumed a rich young man like him would arrange a whole convoy of cars and staff.

He might even bring out a private jet.

Lucas told me to stop watching so many melodramatic TV shows.

He was not that ridiculous.

An intercity train went directly to the town closest to my hometown.

Because of him, I rode in first class for the first time in my life.

Everything felt new to me.

I had no idea what any of the seat controls did, so Lucas showed me while calling me silly the entire

time.

I even ordered a meal on the train.

Lucas looked at it with his usual disdain.

“You actually think that tastes good?”

“Not really. My cooking is better.” I shook my head honestly. “But I can’t waste food.”

“Planning to win me over with your cooking?”

“No. I cooked for Ethan for three years, and he never fell in love with me or even developed a taste for my cooking. Rich people like you usually have private chefs, don’t you? I could never compete

with them.”

Lucas said he liked hearing stories.

But my life had always been uneventful, with few experiences worth telling, so I told him

everything from my childhood until now.

That included what had happened between Ethan and me.

Lena had warned me that I should not tell a man everything about myself.

She said a woman needed to maintain some mystery.

But Lucas had met too many people and seen too much of the world.

Any attempt to pretend in front of him would probably be exposed immediately.

He had solved my money problem without hesitation, and I had nothing else to offer him in return.

The least I could do was satisfy his curiosity.

Everything back home looked exactly the same.

After we got off the intercity train, a driver was waiting for us with a sign.

I praised Lucas for arranging everything so carefully.

“Getting around out here really is difficult without a car.”

Lucas gave me a flat look.

“‘You’re young and handsome, so my family will definitely assume you’re my boyfriend,” I warned him before we went to the hospital. “Don’t take it personally if they say anything strange.”

“I’m always patient with elderly people, all right?”

I ignored him and checked my account balance again.

I had returned for two reasons.

First, I wanted to visit Grandma.

Second, I wanted to pay the surgery expenses myself.

It was an enormous amount of money to me.

I did not trust my uncle enough to transfer it directly to him.

I would only feel safe after paying the hospital in person.

When Lucas was not smiling, he looked imposing, and anyone could tell at a glance that he was wealthy.
