He Faked His Death to Test My Mother Chapter 08

Nathan frowned at the older man walking toward him. “Who are you?”

Vanessa’s face went pale. “You—you’re President of Harvard University!”

The old man ignored her. His eyes went straight to the OR doors. “I’m Harrison Blake, the president, and I’m also the professor for the major she applied to.”

“She’s going to be my last student.”

The hallway went silent.

Vanessa’s face froze for a second, then she forced a smile. “President Blake, maybe you don’t know—Elena cheated on the SAT. Her scores are voided.”

“Actually, my daughter is very talented too. She’s always admired you. Could you give the spot to her instead?”

Before she finished, the old man shot her a cold look.

“The SAT—you think you can just say ‘she cheated’ and void her scores? Who do you think you are?”

He handed over a tablet. The testing room surveillance played.

“Every SAT testing room has cameras.”

The footage was clear. I kept my head down, answered questions. Nothing unusual.

“And reporting someone’s scores voided isn’t just opening your mouth. You need evidence.”

His voice wasn’t loud, but no one dared argue.

“I also looked into it. She didn’t go to school for three years because she couldn’t afford tuition. She taught herself using secondhand textbooks.”

He paused, looking at Nathan. “The daughter you abandoned for ten years—is a true genius.”

Nathan stood there, completely hollowed out.

Then the OR doors opened.

The surgeon pulled off his mask. “She’s stable. She’s awake.”

Nathan rushed forward.

In the hospital room, I lay in bed, pale.

He tried to touch my face. I turned away.

His hand stopped in midair. The little light in his eyes died out.

“Elena, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have doubted you. President Blake’s outside. You can go anywhere. Study anything.” His voice cracked. I stared at the ceiling and twisted my mouth.

“Just this time?”

“It’s always the same. You believe whatever anyone tells you. No

matter how much Mom and I explained, you never believed us.”

I struggled to turn my head toward him. “If you had even one ounce of trust in us—Mom wouldn’t be dead.”

Nathan couldn’t say a word.

After a long time, he whispered, “I’ll make this right for you and your mom.”

I laughed bitterly.

Closed my eyes. Wouldn’t look at him.

I stopped believing him a long time ago.

Maybe my laugh cut him. Nathan secretly messaged his assistant—find out everything about Mom. Everything.

One hour later. His phone buzzed.

He stared at the screen. His fingers tightened. The phone case creaked.

“I never imagined. Behind everything—Vanessa.”

“She dared to do this to you and your mom behind my back. Elena, why didn’t you tell me?”

“I did tell you. Did you believe me?” I looked at him, my eyes flat.

Nathan stepped back without thinking.

He opened his mouth like he wanted to say something. It took him a

long time. Then he finally got out, “Get some rest. I’ll handle the rest.”

“Whoever hurt your mom—I won’t let them get away.”
