He Drove Her To The Exam, Left Our Daughter In The Flood Chapter 07

He clutched the phone, his forehead against the wheel, his shoulders heaving.

Outside the car, the sky had turned dark.

Arthur drove aimlessly and somehow ended up at the factory where Clara and Sienna used to

work.

An old worker named Joe recognized him.

Joe was very enthusiastic, “Arthur! Good to see you.”

“I heard your kid is off to a top university. You’re a lucky man-your wife is so kind-hearted

and your kid is so talented.”

Arthur froze, “Kind-hearted?”

“Yeah, everyone knows your Clara is the best. She knew Sienna was struggling as a single

mom, so she’d volunteer to take her shifts.”

Arthur gave a hollow smile. “Well, that’s because Sienna shielded Clara during that machinery

accident. She almost died; she still has the scars on her leg.”

Joe stared in confusion for a long time. “What accident? There was a minor moped scrape

outside the gate once where they both got clipped. Sienna had a little scratch on her shin, but

what does that have to do with Clara?”

Arthur felt a chill run through his body.

He immediately went to check the insurance records and hospital files from back then.

Sienna’s injury report stated clearly: minor abrasion on the left lower leg, no stitches required,

discharged the same day after bandaging.

No fractures, no permanent damage, no record of her shielding anyone from anything.

But for the past four years, every time he wanted to say no to Sienna’s requests, she would

rub her back and say in that weak voice that the injury she got saving Clara was flaring up

again.

He had never doubted her once.

Arthur stood on the curb with the coworker’s testimony and the insurance records. He felt

like the ground beneath him was giving way.

He knocked on Sienna’s door.

Sienna still had that fragile look until she saw his expression.

“Arthur, what’s wrong?”

Arthur slammed the evidence on her coffee table.

The insurance records, the hospital files, Joe’s testimony.

“Take a look at these yourself.”

Sienna looked down for a few seconds and then gave an indifferent laugh.

She leaned back on the sofa and crossed her legs.

“So? What’s the difference? It’s not like you lost anything these past few years.”

“Madison called you ‘Dad’ for quite a while, didn’t she?”

Arthur stared at her, his breath trapped in his chest.

Sienna tilted her head at him, her voice light and mocking.

“Your daughter is so low-maintenance. She doesn’t cry or make a fuss; she raises herself and studies on her own. She doesn’t need your worry. My Madison is different-she’s the one who

actually needs a father’s love.”

“Madison was bullying Hope at school.” Arthur’s voice trembled. “Did you know?”

“Sure, and didn’t I apologize to Clara? You were the one who said it was just kids playing

around.” Sienna waved her hand dismissively, looking at him with a flash of mockery in her

eyes.

“And don’t act like the wounded party coming here for a confrontation.”

“You’re just a gig worker. What could you ever give Madison? I let her call you ‘Dad’ because I

was doing you a favor.”

Doing you a favor.

Arthur stood in Sienna’s living room, listening to those words, feeling as if the blood had been drained from his body.

He had played the middleman for four years.

He thought he was doing a good deed, repaying a debt for his wife.

He thought he was taking care of a poor divorced woman and her innocent child.

For that, he had sacrificed time with his wife, sacrificed time with his daughter, and taken a

luck charm from his daughter’s bag to hang it on another man’s child.

He had even slapped his own daughter.

And in return, he got four words.

Doing you a favor.

He left Sienna’s apartment and slumped in the hallway for a long time.

He scrolled through his phone gallery and found an old photo.
