He Deleted My Number After 972 Messages of Love Chapter 07

The downpour showed no sign of letting up.

Rain was splattering all over my phone screen as well. My fingers had turned pale and stiff from the cold; I rubbed the damp glass clumsily and unlocked it. My Uber app still showed an estimated wait of over twenty minutes.

I couldn’t stop shivering, so I squatted down and curled my body tight to ward off the cold.

Chloe stepped up and wrapped her arms around Jesse from behind.

“I can shield you from the rain this way,,” she said. “So you won’t get as wet.”

Jesse gently pried her hands away.

“I’m fine. Just stay where you are and don’t get soaked yourself.”

His gaze stayed fixed on the pouring, fog-like downpour blurring everything in sight.

Raindrops struck his forearms, sliding down his pale skin and dripping off his fingertips.

A little while later, a car pulled up in front of us. It wasn’t the Uber I’d requested; it was Jesse’s family chauffeur arriving.

Jesse glanced over at me. “Get in. We’ll drive you home.”

Chloe let out a small, disappointed sound. ” It’s super late,” she murmured. ” Besides, Sadie’s house is quite a long detour. I was eager to get home earlier too.”

Jesse lifted his eyes to her. “Chloe, she’s been in our class for three years.”

Stung by his tone, Chloe forced a smile. “I never said you couldn’t give her a ride. I never knew my boyfriend cared this much about being overly nice to his classmates.”

Another vehicle with its high beams on approached in the distance. I strained my eyes to check the license plate and confirmed it was my scheduled ride-hailing vehicle.

I stood up. “No thanks, I’ve got my own ride here.”

With that, I hurried over and climbed into the backseat.

Chloe’s voice drifted lightly through the rain. ” Wow, it seems she doesn’t appreciate your thoughtful gesture at all.”

Once I got home and showered in hot water, I noticed two missed calls from an unfamiliar local number on my phone.

Moments later, the same number dialed again.

I answered.

Jesse’s voice came through the receiver. “I’m downstairs at your building.”

I immediately leaned toward the window to peer down. “What are you doing here?”

“I brought you some medicine.”

“I’m downstairs at your building.”

Jesse’s tone stayed flat. “Otherwise I can walk right up to your front door.”

My parents were still watching TV in the living room this late, and I panicked that he might actually come inside. I threw on a jacket and rushed outside.

Jesse tossed a plastic bag of medication toward me.

“Sadie.”

“Weren’t you the one who said we should just be plain ordinary classmates from now on?”

A barely noticeable tug at the corner of his lip. “Do you keep every other classmate at this cold distance?”

Before I could even gather my thoughts to reply, Jesse was already walking away.

I stared after his retreating figure, confused about what he was upset over.
