He Cut My Tendons to Make Room for Her, Then Promised to Keep Me as a Pet Chapter 03

He Cut My Tendons to Make Room for Her, Then Promised to Keep Me as a Pet Chapter 03

“Lily, the specialist for your surgery arrived today. As soon as it’s morning, they can operate!” Elias rushed in, barely able to contain his excitement as he delivered the news.

I forced a stiff smile. Even if the surgery succeeded, what would it change? The scars covering my body would never truly disappear. “Forget it. Even if I recover, I’ll still be covered in scars.”

Hearing the defeat in my voice, he grabbed my shoulders, panic flashing across his face. “I’ll go to St. Novell and get you the best scar treatment money can buy.”

“I’ve also heard that in major cities, high society women are all using this top-tier restorative cream called Aurora. It’s supposed to keep their skin flawless. I’ll get that for you too. I don’t care what it costs. I won’t let you keep a single scar.”

I let out a quiet, mocking laugh and said nothing more.

Just then, a familiar female voice sounded from the doorway. Elias immediately brightened and hurried over. “Oh, right, Lily. Someone from the Elite Performance Corps came to visit you.”

The moment I saw who stepped inside, my heart dropped.

Amber.

Elias’s childhood sweetheart. Years ago, they had even been engaged.

She was also the one who had taken my place in the Elite Performance Corps.

She had always resented me for marrying Elias, sabotaging me whenever she had the chance. There was no way she had come out of kindness.

“Lily, are you feeling any better? The Corps heard you were hospitalized, so they sent me to check on you.” Amber wore a pale yellow fitted dress that hugged her waist perfectly, making her figure look even more delicate.

I noticed that the moment Elias saw her, he couldn’t look away.

“We brought you some protein supplement powder. It’s top-grade, perfect for post-surgery recovery.” Amber smiled sweetly, holding out a heavy plastic container.

I glanced at it. The label was worn almost completely white, the edges stained with what looked like mold, and the foil seal was wrinkled and uneven. It was obviously some expired, low-quality junk dug out from who knew where.

Sensing my scrutiny, she suddenly looked apologetic, her voice soft and pitiful.

“You know how it is. Those of us stationed at the base don’t make much. Everyone pooled their money for a long time just to afford this one container. Of course, it can’t compare to the premium stuff you were used to at St. Novell.”

“After all, Lily, you grew up with a silver spoon in your mouth. It’s only natural you’d look down on something like this.” Her voice trembled, her eyes reddening instantly, making me look like an unreasonable, spoiled brat.

Then she turned to Elias. “Colonel Reed, could I speak to Lily alone? Just girl talk.”

Elias didn’t hesitate. He shot me a disapproving look before stepping out. “Lily, stop acting so prideful. Amber genuinely wants to help you. Women understand each other best. Let her talk to you.”

The door had barely clicked shut when the fragile expression vanished from Amber’s face.

She let out a cold laugh and suddenly slammed the moldy container onto my chest. The plastic lid burst open on impact, sending grayish powder exploding across my body. The sharp, rotten smell of mildew filled the air instantly.

She looked me up and down, openly savoring my humiliation, a sneer curling her lips. “Ms. Beaumont used to be so untouchable when she first arrived at Blackwood Naval Base. And now look at you. Reduced to a thief.”

I straightened my back as much as my injuries allowed, refusing to show weakness. “And what does that make you? A parasite living in someone else’s place. What right do you have to judge me?”

“You!” Her face flushed red, her ponytail whipping behind her. “You’re already like this, and you still think you can act superior? So what if you married Elias? The person he loves is me.”

“We’ve been promised to each other since we were kids. If you hadn’t clung to him, he would’ve married me.” She raised her hand and slapped me hard across the face.

My body was too battered to dodge. I took the hit head-on.

Pain flared instantly. The wounds on my face split open again, blood seeping through the bandages.

She laughed in satisfaction. “Do you know how you ended up like this? Elias had people beat you. You were in my way of getting into the Elite Performance Corps.”

“As long as you can never dance or play the piano again, I have nothing to worry about. While you were getting beaten, Elias was with me at the Corps selection.”

Even though I had already known the truth, hearing it from her lips still made my chest tighten.

She scoffed. “If you had any sense, you’d give Elias back to me.”

I lowered my gaze, calm instead of breaking down like she expected. “If you want him, take him. I’ll divorce him. I’ll leave. Since you and Elias love each other, then I wish you a long life together.”

She froze for a split second, then broke into a smug smile. “Of course we’ll grow old together. But first, he needs to completely despise you.”

“I already passed the Elite Performance Corps selection. The director said I can officially join tomorrow. I’ll replace you as the lead performer. As for you…”

Under my wary gaze, she picked up a chair from the floor and brought it down hard against her own leg.

Right before Elias burst through the door, Amber collapsed to the ground. She shot me a vicious grin. “I’m going to make sure he hates you.”

Her scream rang out just as the door flew open.

Elias rushed in and immediately saw Amber curled on the floor, clutching her leg in agony. The chair lay beside my bed, exactly where she had tossed it.

Anyone would assume I had done it.

“Amber, what happened?” Elias rushed over in a panic, grabbing her. In the process, he yanked at my IV line, tearing it free and causing blood to spill out.

He only glanced at me once before ignoring it completely.

“I just wanted to tell her I got into the Elite Performance Corps,” Amber sobbed, collapsing into his arms. “I didn’t expect her to smash my leg with a chair and threaten that I’d never dance again.”

Doctors rushed in at the commotion, instinctively moving toward me first.

Compared to Amber, my condition was far worse. The bandages on my face were already soaked red, and blood continued to seep from my hand. Amber only had a bruise on her leg.

“What are you doing?” Elias snapped at the doctors. “Get your priorities straight. Check Amber first. What if her leg is seriously injured?”

He shot me a cold glare. “Amber came here out of kindness, and you attacked her out of jealousy because she got into the Elite Performance Corps? How can you be this vicious? Just because you can’t dance anymore, you want to take that away from someone else?”

“If anything happens to her leg, I won’t let you off the hook.”

With that, he glared at me one last time, then carried Amber out while she continued to cry.

I watched his retreating back, then struggled to sit up in my wheelchair.

Fine. I couldn’t stay here another second. Walking away like this might actually be for the best.

After running a full set of tests on Amber and confirming it was only a superficial injury with no damage to the bone, Elias finally thought of me.

He frowned and ordered one of his subordinates, “Go buy a box of macarons. Lily likes those. I snapped at her earlier. She’s probably sulking.”

The subordinate chuckled. “Colonel Reed really cares about Ms. Beaumont. I’ll get them right away.”

Elias gave a helpless smile, but it didn’t last long before the subordinate came running back in a panic.

“Sir, there’s a problem. Ms. Beaumont… Ms. Beaumont is gone.”
