He Counted Seconds With Me and Seasons With Her Chapter 07

After Nathan sent those three messages, he didn’t look at his phone again.

He firmly believed the other party would reply on time, within three minutes.

But even when he got off work, the chat box was still empty.

What was wrong with Clara today?

Nathan frowned. For the first time, he felt a sense of irritation.

On the drive home, he-who had always been so composed and self-possessed-spaced out, for the first

time ever.

It wasn’t until the police siren sounded that Nathan finally realized he had run several red lights.

The car pulled over to the side of the road. Nathan paid the fine and was taken to the station for a lecture.

As he stepped out of the police station, the sky had just begun to rain.

His first instinct was to have Clara bring him an umbrella. But the moment he picked up his phone, he remembered she had long since blocked him.

Nathan felt even more irritated.

The billionaire CEO, for the first time, walked home alone in the rain.

The moment he opened the door, there was no warm light as he had imagined. Only pitch darkness.

Nathan tentatively called Clara’s name twice. After receiving no answer, he awkwardly turned on the light

himself.

The stark white light crashed down, but Nathan froze.

Home-no. The scene before him could hardly be called a home.

The fruit always laid out on the table. The various cute ornaments around the house. All of it was gone.

Even the wedding photo that had hung in the center of the living room had disappeared.

The kitchen The fridge. The bedroom.

Every trace of Clara had vanished.

As if she had never existed at all

A kind of panic he had never felt before surged in Nathan’s heart.

He hastily pulled out his phone and sent Clara a message.

But the next second, several red exclamation marks popped up.

She had blocked this number of his too!

Nathan suddenly remembered three days ago, when Clara had seemed to say something to him.

She said she wanted a divorce. She said she was serious this time.

But he hadn’t taken it to heart at all. He just thought it was Clara throwing another tantrum.

Like before, he tried to use money and dismissive words to cover up her emotions, again and again.

But only now did he understand.

That day, everything Clara said was the truth!

Just then, the ticking sound of a timer came from beside his ear.

Nathan looked up and saw that timer again.

Clara had taken everything away, but she had left that one thing behind.

He suddenly remembered their three years of marriage. How Clara had, again and again, humbled herself, begging him to spend more time with her, begging him to give her more of his time.

But what had he done?

Again and again, coldly, he pulled out that timer and pressed it.

“You only have three minutes. After three minutes, I need to get back to work.”

Later, she gradually stopped making a fuss.

Those eyes, once so clear and bright, gradually grew weary. Grew hollow.

It was he, with his own hands, who had let the passionate, blooming rose that was Clara wither and wilt.

Belated regret, like vines, crept inch by inch over Nathan’s heart.

Before, he had never once thought Clara was important.

He always felt that no matter how he treated her, she would always be there, waiting for him to come home.

But then one day, the migratory bird no longer flew south. No longer waited for him as it once did.

Nathan that iceberg, finally had a crack.

It was a feeling that came too late, surging up only after everything was lost.

Nathan dialed the number, his hands trembling. His hands shook so badly he nearly misdialed several times.

Until the call connected. He seemed to grasp at a lifeline.

His voice was hoarse.

“Hello. I’m Clara Walker’s husband. I need to report a missing family member…”

The other end of the line was silent for half a minute, as if checking something on a computer.

After a long pause, the reply came.

“Sir, are you sure you haven’t made a mistake? Ms. Clara Walker’s marital status… shows as…”

“Divorced.”
