He Chose His Old Crush and Lost Me Chapter 03

He Chose His Old Crush and Lost Me Chapter 03

I pulled myself together in the bathroom.

When I stepped out, Jake was standing right there in the hallway.

I walked past him like he didn’t exist.

But as I brushed by, his hand caught my wrist.

I stared at the faint blue veins threading across his knuckles.

The words came out sharp.

“Won’t your girlfriend see you like this, Jake?”

He let out a breath so quiet I almost missed it.

“Lily, don’t be like that.”

I laughed, cold and hollow.

“Then how should I be? Congratulate you? Or should I go tell Alex that the girl you were all over yesterday was just your little sister?”

His face went hard.

His voice dropped low and tight.

“Lily. You can’t tell Alex.”

I wrenched my arm free.

“Don’t tell me what I can and can’t do.”

He came after me again, pulling me out of the crowd and into a quiet corner by the hallway.

I struggled against him.

“Touch me again and I’ll scream.”

His voice softened.

“Lily, it’s not what you think. I’ll explain everything—just not tonight. Please don’t make this awkward for everyone.”

Those eyes—that same pleading warmth he always gave me when we were tangled up together.

“Lily, look at me.”

Or when he’d tighten his grip, just enough to make a point, and whisper against my ear.

“Lily, who do you love most?”

I blinked the memory away.

Wiped my tears.

Pushed him off.

And walked straight back to the table.
