He Chose Her, So I Chose to Disappear Forever Chapter 24

After Elena’s memorial service, Luca returned to the house

they had shared.

Everything was exactly as she had left it.

Her clothes still hung neatly in the closet.

He ran his fingers over them, one by one. The fabric still held

the faint scent of the white tulips she loved. He could picture her in every single piece.

He would never see her in them again.

The thought stole the air from his lungs.

He slid to the floor, his back against the closet doors, and wept in silence.

Then, as if struck by a sudden, desperate thought, he surged

to his feet and slammed every window in the room shut.

He was terrified that even the last trace of her scent would be carried away by the wind.

He lay down on the bed and replayed her words in his mind, over and over.

“If you get on that plane, we’re over.”

She had made the choice so clear.

He just hadn’t believed she would actually leave.

His phone rang incessantly, but Luca never answered.

Much later, his assistant barged in with a spare key.

“Luca, there’s trouble with the family.”

Luca didn’t even lift his head.

“I don’t have any authority. Go to my father.”

The assistant’s face was pale.

“That’s the problem. The boss has called a meeting with all the heads. They’re going to strip you of your status as heir. Permanently.”
