The color drained from Bianca’s face.

She had thought that if she got Luca out of the country, made them miss their flight, and slept with him, the wedding would be called off for good.

But he was still going back to marry Elena.

Luca didn’t have time to comfort her.

“I have to go. You can stay here if you want. Put everything on my account. The guards will get you back to Seattle

safely.”

Then he left the hotel without looking back.

Bianca sat alone on the bed, her fingers clenched in the

sheets.

What she couldn’t bear wasn’t that Luca didn’t love her.

It was that after more than twenty years of Moretti family protection, she still couldn’t have the public recognition Elena was about to receive.

In the airport lounge, Luca sent Elena a text.

She didn’t reply.

He told himself she was just asleep.

But a knot of unease tightened in his gut.

The ten-hour flight had never felt so long.

On the plane, he had a dream.

He was leaving the house in Bellevue, and Elena was standing under the light, saying goodbye. The door slowly

closed behind her, and then she vanished, taking the house and the world with her.

Luca jerked awake, his forehead slick with sweat.

The cabin announcement chimed. The plane had landed in

Seattle.

He grabbed his luggage and bolted.

His assistant was waiting at the arrivals gate.

Luca yanked open the car door and slid in.

“To the venue. Now.”
