He Brought Me a College Guy, Saying I’d Never Touch Him—But I Kept Him Chapter 11

Nathaniel went completely still.

He turned around. “What did you just say?”

“I said that eight hundred thousand dollars was my ransom.”

Eugene closed his eyes, like he was remembering something from the past. “And the kidnapper was your brother.”

Nathaniel felt like someone had grabbed him by the throat.

“The kidnapper ran off with the money. And since when do I have a brother?”

Even as he said it, he understood.

That brother was Eugene’s illegitimate son.

“The Hawthorne Group was failing. I couldn’t afford to support him anymore. He lost his mind and kidnapped me.”

“I was visiting Leonard in the hospital. He tried to protect me. They took both of us.”

Nathaniel swallowed. “Does Isabella know?”

“She knows.” Eugene looked at him. “She’s known the whole time. I told her not to call the police. She didn’t.”

“I told her not to say anything. I said you and your mother would never accept that I had another son out of wedlock. So she kept quiet.”

“Then that monster threatened to kill me if she didn’t pay. She had no choice.”

Nathaniel stood there, but he felt like someone had pushed him off a building and he was still falling.

“She took the blame for me. She took the blame for my illegitimate son. She took your anger and your coldness for three years because of me.”
