He Brought His Mistress, I Brought My Lawyers Chapter 25

When Ethan woke, he was in a hospital bed, his parents at his side.

His father looked at the thick bandages wrapped around his head and sighed.

“Why do this to yourself? Avery is gone. Even if you smash yourself to death, she won’t come back.”

Ethan struggled to sit up. The pain in his head made his vision go black, but his expression was solemn. “Avery hasn’t left.”

She had loved him so much. How could she truly leave?

His cracked lips moved, his voice a hoarse whisper.

“She’s just waiting for me to admit I was wrong. Waiting for me to find her. Then she’ll come back.”

His parents exchanged a helpless look. They couldn’t persuade their obsessed son, so they could only let him be.

Just then, his phone rang.

Ethan lunged for it. It was his assistant.

“Sir! We found Miss Caldwell’s whereabouts!”

“Where?” Ethan heard his own voice tighten, his heart pounding wildly.

“Tomorrow, at the opening ceremony of an art exhibition in Santa Fe. She’ll be attending as a representative of the new Dawn Art Foundation.”

“Book me the fastest private flight to Santa Fe. Now!”

After hanging up, Ethan ignored his parents’ protests, ripped the IV from his hand, signed himself out, and rushed to the airport.

At that moment in Santa Fe, the sunlight was warm, the air filled with the mixed scent of pine and clay.

Avery and Julian were in his studio, making final preparations for tomorrow’s opening ceremony. Her gaze swept across a row of outfits designed for the exhibition.

At last, her eyes landed on a silver fringed dress, and they instantly brightened.

“You like this one?” Julian’s voice sounded beside her.

Avery paused, surprised at being seen through, but she nodded honestly.

“I like it very much.”

“Then this is the one,” Julian said decisively. “Tomorrow, you’ll wear it when you speak as the foundation representative.”

Avery’s eyes widened. After a few seconds, she shook her head, embarrassed.

“I couldn’t. This should be the final piece in the exhibition.”

A faint smile appeared on Julian’s mouth, gentle but firm.

“Why not? These pieces were made for you.”

“What?”

Avery’s thoughts stalled. “What do you mean?”

Julian bent slightly, his gaze deep enough to pull her in. He looked at her and said, each word clear, “You’re the collaborator I admire most, Avery. All of my designs were inspired by you.”
