From Unwanted To Dominator: Her Comeback! Chapter 04

Chapter 4 She’s the Only Princess
After that awful dinner, Mom didn’t look me in the eye for nearly two months.
I was heartbroken. Helpless.
There were nights I lay in bed whispering to myself, “I don’t even want her as my mom anymore.”
But watching how Mom treated Jasmine, I felt that old ache rise up again.
So when Mom’s 32nd birthday came around, I emptied every last coin from my piggy bank and bought her a massage gun.
Her back had been hurting for weeks, and I remembered her wincing whenever she bent over.
I handed it to her with both hands, heart pounding, eyes bright with hope. Maybe this time… maybe she would say something nice.
She barely glanced at it. Just set it aside like it was trash.
Then Jasmine stepped forward, holding up a crayon drawing. It won Mom’s admiration and praise.
“Mommy, I drew our family! Do you like it?”
I looked at the picture.
Three stick figures: Dad, Mom, and Jasmine.
No me.
Mom’s face lit up like she’d just won the lottery.
She scooped Jasmine into her arms, covering her cheeks with kisses. “My sweet girl! You drew a family portrait? That’s so thoughtful! Mommy will treasure this forever!”
I stood there, small and invisible, until the ache in my chest forced the words out.
“Jasmine… why isn’t I in the picture?”
Jasmine’s lip trembled. She buried her face in Mom’s shoulder and went silent.
Mom shot me a glare sharp enough to draw blood. “Annie! Why do you have to ruin everything? Can’t you see this is a happy moment? You’re such a downer!”
The words hit like ice water dumped straight into my soul.
Wasn’t I part of this family too?
Years later, I learned Mom still kept that crayon drawing framed in her bedroom.
But the massage gun—the one I’d saved for months to buy—was gone by that same afternoon. She’d given it away as a “spare gift” to a friend.
Because Jasmine’s present made Mom happy, she decided to take the whole family on a vacation.
Except… not me.
“The car’s full,” Mom said flatly when I asked. “No room.”
I’d ridden in that car before. A spacious four-seater. Plenty of space for all of us.
I didn’t understand—until Jasmine bounced out the front door, hugging a giant stuffed bear twice her size.
She smirked at me, triumphant. “I get to bring Mr. Fluff! That’s why there’s no seat for you.”
Mom nodded, matter-of-fact. “Jasmine can’t sleep without her bear. And you know the rule—she’s the only princess in this house. So you’ll stay home. Be a good girl.”
Then they left.
Mom took Jasmine’s hand, and the front door slammed shut behind them—BAM.
It wasn’t just the door that closed.
It was something inside me.
I collapsed onto the floor and sobbed—great, heaving cries that tore from deep in my chest.
I really didn’t want this mom anymore.
