Ethan pushed me out of the crowd. Once we were alone, he spoke.

“I found out everything.”

“All those years abroad, she wasn’t studying. She wasn’t waiting to come home like she told Julian.”

“Julian gave her a black card. Clubbing every night. Sleeping with different guys. That’s how she caught all

those infections.”

“When she came back and realized, she was scared Julian would find out and leave her. So she framed you.”

I wasn’t surprised. I felt nothing.

“Zoe, what do you want to do?”

“Send all the evidence to him.”

I spoke plainly. “What he does with her is none of my business.”

Ethan looked at me and gripped the wheelchair handles tighter.

“I’m not letting Sterling Group off. He needs to know hurting you has consequences.”

I reached back and held his hand.

“Ethan.”

“It’s okay.”

“I don’t care about them anymore.”

“I just want to live a peaceful life with you.”

Ethan looked down at me and smiled.

“Okay.”

That night, I drank the milk the maid brought me. I passed out shortly after.

When I woke up, I found myself tied to a rusty iron pillar. My wrists and ankles were bound tight. It hurt.

Someone else was tied up next to me. It was Chloe.

She wasn’t gagged. She glared at me.

“Bitch! You should’ve died when you fell! Julian would be mine!”

“After what happened to you. Why won’t he give up on you?”

“You’re just a cheap replacement for me.

She laughed, teeth gritted.

“He won’t choose you this time.”

I understood what was happening.

I looked at her with pity.

“Give it up, Chloe. You’re not with Julian because of me.”

“Julian runs the corporation now. He’s had plenty of chances to marry you. He didn’t.”

“If you want to hate someone, hate him.”

She snapped.

“You’re lying! It’s all because of you!”

“If it wasn’t for you, I’d be Mrs. Sterling!”

“You owe me! You need to pay for this!”

She kept screaming, but I stopped listening.

I heard engines in the distance, getting closer.

It was Ethan and Julian. They’d brought backup.

They both shouted.

“Zoe!”

The thug Chloe had hired yelled out.

“You can only take one. Whoever stays behind dies.”

Chloe started wailing.

“Julian, save me! Zoe planned this! She kidnapped me!”

“She said she wanted to force you to choose! She said you’d definitely choose her! She wants me to watch

you choose her over me!”

Chloe looked at Julian desperately.

“Julian, you won’t leave me, right? You said you loved me. You said you’d never leave me.

“Shut up.”

Julian cut her off.

His face twisted with disgust.

“I already know the truth.”

“I saw the hospital footage. From that day.”

“I told you to just scare her. Instead, you had them attack Zoe. She had to jump out a window.”

Chloe’s face went sheet white.

“You spent years overseas living off my money. Partying every night, sleeping around, getting infected with

god knows what.”

“Yet you framed Zoe for it.”

“You tricked me into misunderstanding her. You made me hurt Zoe again and again for someone like you!”

“If you die, you deserve it.”

Chloe’s eyes widened. She looked at him in disbelief.
