From Grieving Mother to Mafia Queen Chapter 05

From Grieving Mother to Mafia Queen Chapter 05: “She’s just throwing a tantrum”

The day after I bounced, a few Corleone old-timers barged into Vincent’s place.

“Vincent!” Philip got up in his grill. “What the f*ck did you do? Why’d you piss off the Harts? We’re losing turf left and right!”

Vincent’s face went dark. “What happened?”

“Everyone knows we lost Hart protection!” Warren yelled. “The Victor family already grabbed three of our docks. Our north casino got hit too.”

Vincent went white. “No way… Serafina’s just throwing a tantrum…”

No

“A tantrum?” Tony laughed in his face. “You got any clue how many families are circling us right now? N Harts? We’re nothing.”

“You gotta fix this. Go beg the Hart heiress. Get down on your knees.”

Vincent balled his fists, then let them drop. Powerless.

“I… I’ll take care of it,” he mumbled.

The elders stormed out, leaving Vincent alone. Pissed and scared. Pissed I’d dare do this. Scared of losing everything.

Then Sophia came in with a bowl of soup. Her eyes were all red and teary, looking like a wounded puppy.

“Vincent…” Her voice quivered. “It’s all my fault.”

She dropped to her knees by the bed. “Serafina must’ve found something out. She hates me, so she’s taking it out on you. You lost everything because of me.”

Vincent was caught off guard. “Sophia, don’t—”

“For the family, I’ll get on my knees for her.” Sophia looked up at him, crying. “She can take it out on me. Hit me, scream at me-whatever. As long as she forgives you.”

Vincent’s ego got a huge stroke from Sophia’s “sacrifice.”

Compared to that, my behavior looked even more “unreasonable” to him.

“No, you don’t gotta do that.” Vincent reached to pull her up. “This ain’t your fault.”

“But…”

“Serafina’s just acting on impulse.” Vincent started reassuring himself. “She’s loved me for years. There’s no way she’s that cold.”

A flash of triumph crossed Sophia’s eyes, then she hid it behind worry. “But the family situation…”

“She’ll chill out in a few days and come back,” Vincent insisted. “I know her. She’s soft inside. She won’t just stand by and watch me suffer.”

Sophia pretended to hesitate. “You really think so?”

‘Course.” Vincent’s voice dripped with confidence. “She’s just throwing a tantrum. Once she gets it out of her system, she’ll come crawling back to apologize to me.”
