From Grieving Mother to Mafia Queen Chapter 03

From Grieving Mother to Mafia Queen Chapter 03 : “This is for your own good”
The night of the big family meeting.
Vincent and two of his companions forced my door open.
“Get her down to the basement.”
Before I could react, they dragged me to the underground punishment chamber—a place reserved for rats who betrayed the family.
No sunlight had ever graced that place. The atmosphere was saturated with the metallic tang of blood. My stomach churned violently at the overwhelming stench.
A man in a white lab coat stood off to the side, holding a small glass vial. The liquid inside glistened with a cold brilliance under the bright lights.
“What’s that?” A chill crawled up my back.
Vincent remained silent. Simply gestured to the two guards. They lunged forward and secured my arms firmly in their grasp.
“Vincent! What the f*ck are you doing?!” I thrashed, but they were too strong.
“Sterilization drug,” the doctor said. “One dose and you’ll never carry another kid.”
My mind went blank.
“No! Vincent! You can’t do this!”
Vincent knelt down and reached for my face. I whipped my head away.
“Serafina, this is for your own good.” His voice was soft. “You’re falling apart. Another baby could kill you. This is the safer way.”
“Get the fck off me!” I shot him a look of pure hate. “I’m falling apart because you’ve been fcking poisoning me!”
Vincent’s face flinched for a second, then went smooth. “Poison? Why would I poison you? You’re heartbroken—you’re seeing things.”
He moved closer and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. “Anyway, now we can pour everything into raising Tommy. He’ll be a great kid.”
He stood and nodded at the doctor.
The two guards firmly grasped my cheeks and compelled my mouth to open.
The liquid trickled down my throat. Vincent observed intently, ensuring I had consumed every last drop. Only then did a smile appear on his face.
Fire ripped through my guts—like a dozen blades twisting. I curled into a ball on the floor, soaking wet with cold sweat, the pain so bad I almost blacked out.
“Vincent…” I choked out the words. “I hate you… I f*cking hate you…”
Then everything went dark.
When I came to, I was back in my bedroom. My body still hurt, but that brutal pain was gone.
I knew for a fact—I’d never have children again.
I got up and walked into the hallway. Outside Sonny’s room sat several trash bags stuffed with his toys, clothes, and pictures. A fresh sign hung on the door: Tommy’s Room.
The master bedroom door was closed, but I could hear Sophia’s soft voice putting Tommy to sleep.
I balled my fists, nails biting into my palms, fighting the urge to smash everything.
Just wait. Tonight, it all ends.
Then Sophia stepped out of the master bedroom holding a fancy box. Inside was gray-white powder.
My blood froze—Sonny’s ashes. After the cremation, I’d kept a small bit to have him near me.
“What are you doing?!” My voice cracked.
Sophia ran her fingers over the box, a nasty grin on her lips. “This junk takes up too much space. It’s garbage. I’m tossing it.”
“No!” I lunged at her. “Give it back! That’s my son—”
Sophia was fully prepared. She leaped backward and deliberately released her grip.
The box hit the floor. The lid flew open. Ashes were scattered everywhere on the wood.
“Whoops. My hand slipped.” She played innocent. “So sorry. Didn’t mean to drop your little bastard.”
Rage burned through whatever was left of my sanity. I wound up and slapped her across the face with everything I had.
Crack!
The resonant sound echoed through the hallway.
Sophia grabbed her cheek, tears spilling instantly. “Serafina… how could you? It was an accident…”
“Accident?” My voice came out rough. “You b*tch! You destroyed my son’s ashes!”
Right then, Vincent came charging up the stairs.
“What’s going on? I heard yelling…” He saw the red mark on Sophia’s face and the ashes on the floor. “Serafina! Hitting people again?”
“She destroyed Sonny’s ashes!” I pointed at the gray powder, my voice shaking. “That’s all I had left, and she did it on purpose!”
Vincent scowled, sounding as annoyed as if he were looking at a pile of trash.
“Enough. It’s just some dead kid’s ashes. You really want to throw a fit over that tonight?!”
He turned to me, his eyes empty of any apology. “Serafina, knock it off. The meeting’s starting soon. Don’t make me look bad.”
He completely ignored the fury on my face. “Go change. We need to leave a good impression tonight. This is huge for me.”
Just then, the encrypted phone in my pocket vibrated. I looked down. A message from my father:
“The crew is here.”
I set aside my phone and gave Vincent a nod. “Fine. I’ll go get dressed.”
Vincent smiled, pleased. “That’s my wife. After tonight, our lives are only going to get better.”
I turned and walked straight to the back door.
In the darkness, a dozen black armored Lincolns sat silent.
Mark De Luca, my father’s top hitter, stood outside with dozens of heavily armed mafia soldiers. When they saw me, they all dropped to one knee in perfect sync.
“Ms. Hart, the Godfather sends his regards.”
He carefully opened a sturdy metal case. Inside lay a gleaming syringe. Beside it, a fully loaded pistol rested.
I grabbed the syringe and jabbed it into my arm without a second thought.
The second the drug hit my blood, my body felt lighter than it had in years. I felt brand new.
I picked up the loaded gun and let out a cold laugh. “Let’s roll. My dear husband is waiting to welcome the family rep. Tonight, I’m going to use his whole family’s blood as a sacrifice for my son.”
