Four Ballots. Four Names. My Family Chose To Trade Me Away Chapter 06

Life in Dust Hollow turned out to be pretty good.

I woke at six every morning and ran the dirt roads.

The cameraman staggered behind, gasping, complaining that I wasn’t following the script.

I was supposed to be crying in misery, not treating this like a wellness retreat.

After my life force returned, five miles didn’t even break a sweat. A healthy body felt incredible.

While cooling down, I poked around the backhill soil. The cameraman shoved the lens in my face, asking

what I was looking for.

I was an archaeology major. I’d noticed strange stratified layers scattered across the slopes-ceramic shards

with human-face patterns.

After some preliminary surveying, I suspected there was an undiscovered burial complex from the early colonial period buried beneath that barren dirt.

I sent my notes and photos to Professor Aldric Vance.

The mayor heard about it and brought me a carton of fresh eggs.

“Wren, this… grave thing you’re talking about. Could it really make money for the town?”

I cracked an egg and nodded.

“If it gets protected as a heritage site, the state will fund roads and tourism infrastructure.”

The mayor grinned from ear to ear and declared me the town’s honored guest.

As for Cletus-after our first encounter, he behaved like a scared rabbit. He took over all the heavy chores

without being asked.

Meanwhile, in Palisades Point, the Blake household had descended into total chaos.

Seraphina’s recording session hit a dead end. Midway through her new single, her voice gave out completely. Any effort produced a wheezing, broken rasp.

The sound engineer yanked off his headphones in despair.

“Miss Blake, your vocal quality is worse than an amateur’s. This isn’t workable.”

Seraphina burst into tears, but even her sobs sounded awful.

Dorian’s investor pitch went just as badly.

Standing on stage, staring at his presentation screen, his mind went utterly blank. The brilliant algorithms he’d boasted about looked like meaningless symbols. The VCs frowned.

“Mr. Blake, your logic is full of holes. You can’t even calculate a basic financial model.”

“We don’t fund packaged frauds.”

Dorian stood frozen in a cold sweat.

Harrison’s situation was worse. His assistant rushed in pale-faced.

“Sir-all three overseas core projects have been flagged for violations. Partners are terminating contracts and demanding triple damages!”

Harrison turned pale and collapsed into his chair.
