Time moves fast. Before long it was move-in day.
That morning, Ethan woke up in a hotel bed and rolled away from Lexi.
He picked up his phone and opened his thread with Taylor.
The last messages were from the day the results came out — him telling her not to contact him over the summer.
Scrolling up, there was one from Taylor, bright and excited.
“Ethan!! I’m finally coming to New York to find you!!”
He’d told her not to reach out, fine. But she’d actually gone the whole summer without sending a single text.
Ethan frowned at that without quite meaning to.
Still, today was the day she was flying in. He let it go and started typing.
“Babe, are you at the airport yet? I’ll come get you.”
The message sent. It didn’t turn into a blue iMessage bubble.
It went green. And underneath it: “Not Delivered.”
He’d been blocked.
He figured he’d misread it. Sent it again.
Still green. Still “Not Delivered.”
He sat straight up, jaw tight.
What was going on?
He called her. Straight to voicemail.
“The number you are trying to reach is unavailable.”
That line too. Blocked.
Ethan’s expression went flat.
