Five Years Together… And He Gave the Ring to My Old Bully Chapter 10

Alex stood there, stunned.

In all the years we’d known each other, I’d never said anything that final.

On instinct, he started after me. But Savannah grabbed his arm.

“I came all the way to Kingsley for you. If you leave, what am I supposed to do?”

Alex hesitated. Savannah pressed on.

“Besides, weren’t you already looking for a chance to tell her the truth?”

“Now you don’t even have to explain anything.”

His brows drew together.

“I wanted to tell her. But not like this.”

“My mom treats Clara like her own daughter. We grew up together, after all.”

Savannah let out a scoff.

“You skipped classes for over a month and flew thousands of miles from Caldwell to Kingsley for her. And she dumped you without a second thought over another guy.”

“Come on. You two have years of history—there’s no way she can just let that go.”

“Give her a couple of days, and she’ll come looking for you. That’s how it’s always been, right?”

Alex was quiet for a long time.

Finally, he spoke, “Book me a flight back to Caldwell. I really should be getting back.”

Because I’d blocked Alex everywhere, I had no idea when he actually left.

So when I later saw the post on his shared couple account announcing that he and Savannah had broken up, I stared at the screen for a while.

Grant was sitting beside me. He glanced at my phone and suddenly frowned.

“I remember you said they got together senior year. But I could’ve sworn I saw them together back in freshman year.”

“Freshman year?” I whipped my head around.

“That’s impossible. They didn’t even know each other back then.”

“And Alex and I were together practically every second of the day.”

Grant thought for a moment.

“The competition class got out an hour later than the rest of us.”

“Sometimes on my way home, I’d see Alex sitting on the back of her motorcycle.”

“The girl had a pretty distinctive style, so I took a second glance.”

He paused. “Or maybe it’s been too long. Maybe I remembered wrong.”

My face was pale in the reflection of my cup. I couldn’t stop shaking.

I knew it. What Grant said was true.
