Five Years of Secret Love, He Married My Best Friend Chapter 05

That roar split the ballroom.

Dead silence.

I turned toward the doors.

Harrison. Connor’s roommate from NYU. His cutthroat competitor in Chicago’s business circles.

Right now, he looked like a grizzly that had been poked with a stick.

He shoved past a security guard trying to stop him. Long strides. Straight for Connor.

He grabbed Connor by the lapels of his custom suit. Teeth bared.

“You told me you loved her. You’d protect her with your life. This is your love? This is your goddamn protection?!”

Connor’s face drained. His pride took the hit. He shoved Harrison’s hands off.

“Harrison, are you drunk? Gone insane? My personal life is none of your damn business!”

“None of my business?!”

Harrison’s sharp blue eyes cut toward me like a blade. A shudder ripped through me.

“If you hadn’t warned me off her. Again and again. I would’ve—”

“Harrison! Shut your goddamn mouth!”

Connor’s face went purple. Veins bulged at his temple. Like a nerve had been stepped on. Raw.

“What the hell is this circus?! Security! Someone explain what’s going on!”

Connor’s father was the first to shake off the shock. He slammed the table. Voice like a whip.

My mom Brenda turned to me. Shock and confusion crashed across her face.

“Harper. What he just shouted. Is that true?”

“Were you Connor’s girlfriend in Chicago this whole time?!”
