Farewell, My Don Chapter 16

Farewell, My Don Chapter 16

A year passed. Dominic’s stomach bleeding healed, but he could never go back to who he was

He threw himself into work, expanding the Rizzo Family’s business empire, becoming colder,

more ruthless, and more reclusive.

He lived alone in the mansion, surrounded by Genevieve’s belongings–her books, her clothes, her photos–like a shrine.

He stopped dating, stopped smiling, stopped laughing. He had long since lost his former self.

Then, his assistant told him that the international conference sponsored by the Rizzo Family would

be held in New York.

Genevieve would be coming. She was one of the simultaneous interpreters, sent by her European

company.

Dominic’s heart raced.

He hadn’t seen her in a year. He hadn’t heard her voice.

He had kept his promise—he left her alone. But now, she was coming back.

Back to New York. Back to his city.

On the day of the conference, he wore a dark suit, a fedora, and a mask over his face to conceal it.

He sat in the darkest corner of the back row of the hall, his eyes fixed on the interpretation booth.

She was there. She was wearing a dark blue suit, her hair combed back, her expression calm and

focused.

She interpreted the speaker’s words, her tone smooth, her voice clear and confident.

She was beautiful–more beautiful than ever. She was happy. She was free.

Dominic watched her, his heart aching, eyes brimming with tears.

He didn’t walk over, didn’t talk to her, just watched quietly.

He watched her laughing and talking with colleagues during the break, watched her drinking coffee with a bright smile, watched her walk out of the hall with a steady gait and her head held high.

He followed her to the lobby, keeping a safe distance, watching as she said goodbye to her

colleagues.

Then, she turned, and their eyes met.

A flash of surprise crossed her expression, then it returned to calm.

She gave him a glance, as if looking at a stranger, then turned and walked out the door, getting into

a taxi.

Dominic stood there in the center of the lobby, the mask slipping, tears streaming down his face.

He knew it was all over.

He knew she was never coming back.

He knew he would spend the rest of his life alone, filled with regret, pain, and memories of the

woman he deeply loved but had lost.

He walked out of the conference center into the biting New York air.

He looked up at the sky, the clouds were thick, the wind howling.

He pulled out the wedding ring—the one Genevieve left on the nightstand–holding it in his hand.

The ring was cold, just like his heart.

He was once the Don of the Rizzo Family, controlling countless kingdoms, with power, wealth, and

prestige.

But he lost the only important thing–Genevieve, his beloved, his life.

He could never find her again.

He stood there for a long time holding the ring, watching as the taxi disappeared in the distance.

The Don of the Rizzo Family cried for the first time in his life.

Not for power, not for wealth, and not for Amara. But for Genevieve.

For the child he lost. For the love he threw away. For the life he could never have.

The wind blew, bringing the bustle of the city, but he heard nothing.

He only heard her soft voice: “Dominic, I love you.”

He understood deep down that he would never stop loving her.

Even if she would never love him. Even if she would never forgive him.

Even if he would spend the rest of his life alone.

He brought it on himself, and now, he would bear the consequences forever.
