Family First? Nah. Revenge First. Welcome to My Heatwave Trap! Chapter 03

I told Mom the new apartment still needed some finishing touches and asked them to wait three days.

That gave me time to rent a large villa with a basement in the neighboring Willow Creek gated community.

In extreme heat, running out of food wasn’t the worst thing.

The real danger was losing power.

Last time, many people in high-rises died of heatstroke when the AC shut off.

Since I had been given a second chance, I would make full preparations this time.

Every house in this community had a basement. I had toured the area when I was house hunting. Even in the middle of summer, stepping into one made me want to grab a jacket.

Nothing would beat this place for beating the heat.

I stocked up on dozens of cases of instant ramen, self-heating pasta kits, microwave meals, and frozen pizzas.

Since fresh produce wouldn’t last long in the heat, I bought vacuum-packed vegetables and plenty of dried fruit and trail mix.

The basement was huge, so I bought three large refrigerators.

I filled them with steaks, shrimp, pork ribs, lamb, frozen dumplings, and all kinds of frozen pastries I loved.

I dedicated one fridge just for ice cream to stay cool.

On top of that, I grabbed sunflower seeds, jerky, chips, and other snacks. I also stocked up on common medications.

While passing a hardware store, I picked up a few solid knives for self-defense.

Worried about water and power outages, I bought large storage tanks with purifiers.

I taught myself online how to set up solar generator panels in the yard.

To avoid drawing attention, I disguised every delivery as remodeling supplies and transported them in myself.

Thankfully, the villa had high walls and the houses were spaced far apart.

I used a moving service for two full days, and no one noticed anything unusual.

Experts had said last time the heatwave would end in about a month. I had died on day seven.

When I finished stocking up, I looked at the mountain of supplies and felt confident.

A month? I could easily last a year.
