Everyone Knew But Me The Day My Boyfriend Married His Other Girlfriend Chapter 04

Everyone Knew But Me The Day My Boyfriend Married His Other Girlfriend Chapter 04

Life seemed to slip back into its old routine.

I still lived in the house Julian had bought for us.

I went to work during the day, visited my mom at the hospital at night.

Julian was busy with his new wife and rarely contacted me anymore.

Oddly enough, the silence felt like a relief.

One evening after work, I bought Mom’s favorite soup dumplings and headed to the hospital.

When I pushed open the hospital room door, I froze.

Two young women were sitting beside her bed.

My best friend Claire Sullivan. And Vanessa Moore.

My voice came out shaking.

“Claire… why did you bring her here?”

My mom smiled at me. “Claire said you were busy, so she brought her friend to keep me company.”

“I just met Vanessa today, but I already love her. Such a sweet, pretty girl. Too bad her husband’s a cheating scumbag.”

“Vanessa, listen to me. Women who become homewreckers always pay for it in the end.”

Vanessa Moore rose slowly and walked toward me.

She gave me a plastic smile. Then she turned to my mom, her voice dripping with fake sweetness.

“Aunt Paula, you’re absolutely right.”

“Homewreckers always get what’s coming to them.”

“So when is your daughter going to get hers?”

“Oh wait, she already did. It just landed on you instead. Late-stage stomach cancer. I’ll take it, I guess.”

My mom went pale. She struggled to sit up, glaring at Vanessa Moore.

“What nonsense are you talking about?”

Claire grabbed two marriage certificates from her purse and threw them onto Mom’s blanket.

“Vanessa isn’t lying! Sienna really is the mistress!”

“You see these? Vanessa and Julian are legally married. They’re husband and wife.”

“Sienna knows he’s married, yet she’s still living in his house and spending his money.”

“The money paying for your treatment comes from their marital assets. Vanessa has every right to take it back.”

Mom’s trembling hands reached for the certificates.

Her eyes landed on the date.

February 14th.

Valentine’s Day.

My birthday.

A violent cough tore through her body.

Then she coughed up blood.

“Mom!”

I lunged for the emergency call button.

Before I could reach it, Claire and Vanessa grabbed me.

They held me back.

Vanessa sneered.

“Your mom just said it herself. Homewreckers deserve punishment. If she doesn’t pay the price today, you’ll never learn your lesson. You’ll keep chasing after my husband!”

“Maybe it’s better if she dies. Julian’s money doesn’t grow on trees. Why should he waste it on you and your pathetic mother?”

I begged my best friend—on my knees—to save my mom.

She just scoffed.

“Best friend? I’d never be friends with a cheap mistress. Vanessa is my REAL best friend.”

“Ever since we were kids, you’ve always been better than me. Prettier. Smarter. Even your boyfriend was better.”

“I was sick of your fake kindness. You always acted so generous. Like everyone should be grateful. Who asked for your charity? This is your karma!”

I stumbled back. My ears rang.

I thought I was helping her. She thought I was lording it over her.

I thought we were friends. She thought we were enemies.

Before I could say a word, they shoved me to the floor.

I could only watch.

Watch as Mom’s body convulsed violently on the hospital bed.

Watch as the heart monitor screamed.

Then slowly flattened into a single green line.

My mom was gone.

I broke free of their grip and grabbed the fruit knife mom used to peel apples for me.

I charged at them.

I’d make them pay with their lives.

“Sienna Rhodes! What the hell are you doing!”

Julian Carter burst through the door.

He’d arrived just in time to witness the final seconds.

Without hesitation, he threw himself in front of Vanessa. Protecting her.

Just as the knife was about to plunge into his chest, I twisted my wrist.

The blade sank into my own chest.

Blood sprayed across Julian’s face.

He caught me as I fell, screaming my name.

“SIENNA!”
