Every Night She Sleepwalked to Him—Until He Pretended No More Chapter 05

I pulled the clothes from the dryer piece by piece.

My face went hot the second I picked up the slip. It was still warm from the dryer.

I brought it to my face and breathed in. It smelled like Bennett.

He used custom-scented everything: body wash, detergent, all of it ridiculously expensive. I bought whatever

was on sale.

And now my nightgown smelled like him…

Something about it felt too close. Too private.

I breathed deeper than I should have. It settled somewhere in my chest and stayed.

Comments appeared. [I literally can’t with this girl. Stop being so down bad.]

[Girl, move out already. Stop getting in the way of the MMC and FMC meeting up.]

I got dressed for work and headed downstairs.

Bennett was at the kitchen island, focused on making sandwiches. Morning light cut through the window and lit up his profile. Unfairly good-looking, as always.

Bennett’s family had serious money. The townhouse wasn’t huge, but in this neighborhood, square footage was almost beside the point; the address alone was worth a fortune.

If he hadn’t needed someone to feed his cat, I never would’ve gotten a place like this. Never would’ve met him, either.

And this was just one of his properties. The Langfords owned an office tower downtown. Bennett worked

there.

My law firm was in the same district, short commute, another perk of living here.

Of course someone like Bennett would pick a girl from his own world, even online.

I had no business wanting him. I needed to go.

Bennett slid a sandwich onto a plate and glanced up. “Breakfast is ready.”

He looked completely at ease. Like last night hadn’t happened.

Then again, he probably didn’t know I’d woken up mid-episode. He must’ve thought I left his room on

autopilot.

I sat down. Bennett set the sandwiches and a mug of coffee in front of me.

We both started talking at the same time.

“Maren,”

“Bennett,”

He stopped. “You first.”

I took a breath. “I’m going to move out at the end of the month.”

Bennett’s eyes locked on mine. “Why?”

I scrambled for a reason. “I… I’m seeing someone. Living with another guy, it’s not really fair to him. He’d get

jealous.”
