Deboned Fish for Her, Left No Room for Me Chapter 08

Deboned Fish for Her, Left No Room for Me Chapter 08

Sorry, Leith.

I was borrowing your name for a second.

Otherwise, I could not let them have the last word.

Cecily immediately looked at Keaton.

He still held his glass, his face unreadable.

I looked perfectly calm.

As I passed Keaton, he reached out and grabbed my wrist.

His voice tightened.

“You… have a boyfriend?”

“What’s wrong with that? We already broke up.”

I tried to pull my hand back, but Keaton’s grip tightened.

“You’re lying, right?”

“How could you like someone else?”

His grip was too strong.

Red marks bloomed around my wrist.

“Keaton, you’re hurting me!”

He loosened his grip instinctively, but he still did not let go.

“Marlow, tell me this is a joke.”

Only then did it hit me.

I looked at him in disbelief

“Keaton, why are you so angry?”

“Don’t tell me you don’t want me dating anyone because you still have feelings for me.”

He let go of me at once.

I let out a bitter laugh and walked away.

Behind me, Cecily’s voice came softly as she comforted him.

“If Marlow has moved on, then you should let go too.”

The glass door closed behind me.

I did not hear Keaton’s answer.

I did not want to.

The rain had softened to a drizzle.

Leith’s car pulled up.

Before I could close my umbrella and walk over, he got out first with one of his own.

“Stay under the umbrella.”

I smiled at him and got into the passenger seat.

Through the thin curtain of rain, I caught a glimpse of Keaton’s tall figure from the corner of my eye.

He stood in the rain, completely still.

I looked away.

For good this time.

When Rilla found out her brother had driven me home, she texted me nonstop, practically vibrating through the phone.

[Marlow, please tell me you’re going to give my brother a chance.]

[Please. I want you in my family.]

I smiled and shook my head, turning off my screen.

But then calls started coming in one after another

All from Keaton.

He was like a man possessed

The second I declined, he called again.

Leith glanced sideways and asked softly,

“Why aren’t you answering? Ex-boyfriend?”

I was surprised by how sharp he was.

But I did not want to hide it.

“Yeah. He came to see me today.”

Leith’s hands tightened slightly around the steering wheel.

Then he spoke.

“Marlow, could you… not say yes to him yet?”

“Give me a fair chance first.”

I hurriedly waved my hands.

“He’s not trying to win me back. He just can’t stand losing control.”

Leith smiled and shook his head.

“Marlow, you don’t understand men.”

“You’re too good. He lost you. Once he realizes it, he’ll come back fighting.”

Leith slowly pulled the car to the curb.

Then he leaned closer, the sharp lines of his face softened by the streetlight.

His gaze flicked to my lips for a second before returning to my eyes.

“Then promise me you won’t take him back without giving me a chance.”

My face went hot all at once.

My brain lagged behind by a full second.

Then I nodded blankly.

He let out a soft laugh.

After dropping me off downstairs, he only smiled, said good night, and left

I entered my passcode and opened the door.

The lights inside were blazing.

My heart dropped.

Keaton was sitting on my couch, looking at his watch.

For one second, I could not even breathe.

He had let himself into my apartment.

“How did you get in?”

“Marlow, I told you you’re too naive.”

He curved his mouth and stood, walking toward me.

“You’ve always been predictable. You still use the same passcode.”

“It only takes twenty minutes to get from your office to your apartment.”

“This time, you took thirty.”

He stepped closer, trapping me between him and the door.

“What did the two of you do during those ten minutes?”
