Gideon’s fury detonated. His eyes nearly bled. “Who told you 

to terminate it?! Who authorized this?! This is deliberate 

homicide!” 

“Mr. Hale. It was Ms. Whitfield. She came with your personal 

effects and gave the order. We followed protocol.” 

The voice on the line wiped every trace of pitiful vulnerability 

clean off Serena’s face. 

“Gideon. Listen. I did it for you. Those two fossils drained millions from you over the years. You think I don’t know?” 

Gideon hurled his phone straight into her skull. His hand 

locked around her throat. “Serena Whitfield. What’s any of 

this got to do with you? You’re his mistress. That money was 

joint marital property. Even if I spent every last cent on Seraphina–what business is it of yours?” 

Her face went white as paper. She clawed at his hand and 

screamed. “Gideon Hale. Six years. I gave you two children. And I’m still just your mistress?” 

“Did you think you were anything else?” 

He flung her to the floor. Kicked her aside. Blood trickled from her split lip. She laughed like a madwoman. 

“That’s right. You never saw me as anything more. Even when I was carrying your babies, I was just a fling. Just your side piece. Even after I pushed you to destroy her fertility, you never once considered divorcing her. You wanted to give her 

my children. Let her be Mrs. Hale forever.” 

Her blood–soaked confession didn’t move him. Not a flicker. 

Serena wiped the blood from her mouth. Dragged herself up by the floor. Pure revenge burned in her eyes. “I know why you were good to me. It was because I’m the mother of your children. You grew up broken. You didn’t want your kids to lose either parent. But you never knew, did you? The kids were 

never yours.” 

The words hit Gideon like a thunderbolt. His face collapsed into something black and monstrous. He didn’t hesitate. Dragged both children over. Needles in their arms. Blood 

drawn. 

The results were unmistakable. Neither twin was his. 

Gideon clutched the report. The air around him dropped to something out of hell. The children were too terrified to even cry. He stripped them down. Searched every inch of their bodies. Not a single bruise. Not one scratch. 

In that moment, every emotion drained clean out of him. “Whatever happened to Seraphina when she fell – you’ll follow her down. Exactly the same.” 

Three screams tore through the room behind him. Gideon 

didn’t look back. 

One lie had surfaced. Which meant countless more were buried beneath it. He dug into all six years. The abuse in that psychiatric facility. Worse than animals. The urns kicked across the bedroom floor. The media he now realized she’d hired herself. Serena had played the fragile victim while wearing his wife’s name. And in every shadow where he hadn’t been looking, she’d butchered the one person he’d sworn to 

protect. 

Within a single month–barely eating, barely sleeping–he unearthed everything. His body wasted to a skeleton. Hollow. Brittle. He took the two bastard children and delivered Serena 

straight into that same psychiatric facility. Electroshock. 

Beatings. Fighting dogs for food. 

Three months. That was all it took. The woman who’d spent every day screaming and begging for mercy was reduced to an animal drooling on the floor, barking at shadows. Gideon 

watched the whole thing. His chest hurt so badly he could barely breathe. Three months to break a person completely. Seraphina–who burst into tears from a stubbed toe–had 

survived three years. 

The last scrap of mercy inside him died. He sent Serena two 

small boxes. Ashes inside. She’d been insane for half a year already. She clutched those boxes and bashed her own skull 

bloody against the wall. The moment she ran to the rooftop to jump, Gideon pressed a blade to his own heart. 

But before he drove it home, he made one last desperate call. 

To a number from three years ago. He needed to go back. To 

atone. To see her face one last time.
