Bought A Lover, Got A Butler: The Demon CEO’s Secret Chapter 02

The next morning, I reached for him out of habit. My arm swept across empty sheets.

My brain blanked for a few seconds before it caught up. Something tightened in my chest, small but noticeable.

I must have gotten used to him being there. Having that disappear overnight left a gap I wasn’t ready for.

I dragged myself out of bed, stumbled to the bathroom to brush my teeth, and spotted Liam already in the kitchen from the doorway.

He was tall and lean, the little pink apron I’d bought tied loose at his waist. From this angle, with that sharp jaw and straight nose, he looked unfairly good, almost offensive in how good-looking he was.

I spat toothpaste into the sink and silently cursed the company that built him.

What kind of sadist builds a domestic-type succubus to look like that? It was a crime against nature.

I sat down at the table and waited like I always did. What I didn’t expect was Liam walking out with a plate in one hand, lifting me clean off the chair with the other, and setting me down on his lap.

“Wh— what are you doing?” I planted both palms against his chest and shoved, trying to put some space between us.

Liam caught both my wrists in a single motion. He guided my hands up, and suddenly I was staring straight into his eyes, dark and unreadable, not giving a thing away.

“Aren’t I supposed to feed you?”

I’d almost forgotten about that part.

Back when I was still trying to break through his icy exterior, I’d piled on every excuse to force intimacy. Cooking for me wasn’t enough — he had to feed me, too.

It wasn’t enough for him to hand me a fork, either. I made him sit me on his lap and spoon-feed me, one slow bite at a time.

He’d resisted at first, that part had always been obvious.

But I was relentless, and I knew exactly how to exploit his programming. I simply refused to eat if he wouldn’t do it, and his core directives wouldn’t exactly let me starve.

Eventually, he stopped fighting it. He’d pull me onto his lap without being asked, grab the spoon, and do it without a word.

But now, after what I’d found out, there was no way I could let this continue.

I scrambled off him, all but tripping over myself, and dropped back into my own chair. My heart was still pounding when I finally managed to speak.

“It’s — it’s fine. I’ll feed myself from now on.”

Liam stared at me for a few seconds without blinking, then looked away. “Good. You’re perfectly capable of feeding yourself.”

I winced. He’d probably been biting his tongue for months, and I’d just been too oblivious to notice.

After breakfast, Liam cleared the table in under a minute and grabbed the helmet and motorcycle keys, ready to give me a ride to work like he always did. I shifted on my feet, heat creeping up my neck.

Because that had been my doing, too. Riding behind him on the motorcycle meant I could wrap my arms around his waist, press my hands against his stomach, and force him to take the scenic route, turning a ten-minute ride into twenty.

I used to look forward to that ride every morning. But I couldn’t keep putting him through it.

I took the helmet out of his hands before he could offer it. “You don’t have to drive me anymore. I’ll get there on my own.”

He went still, his hand hovering in the air where the helmet had been, frozen mid-reach.

Before he could say a word, I ducked my head and rushed out the door.

I wasn’t clinging to him anymore, wasn’t dragging him into intimacy he never wanted. That had to be a relief for him, didn’t it?
